I need to color my hair and straighten it, but I don't know how close together I can do them. Can I color it and then straighten it or vice versa right away?

Are you talking about a chemical straightener? Be really careful, either way you are damaging your hair. This is called double processing and you hair could actually melt and/or fall out. I prefer an electric straightener. It is much safer and less damaging to your hair. If you insist on doing the chemical straightener, alone or with color, consult a professional, please.

If you are chemically straightening your hair, do it first. Wait atleast 2-3 weeks then colour your hair. It takes alot of time to repair the damage that is caused to each hair strand when chemicals are introduced either at the same time or seperate. I fried my hair in the past and had to buy Kolesterol hair treatments from Sally Beauty Supply Store to repair the damage. It comes in a bottle and is inexpensive. I had to cake the treatment onto my hair and then use hot damp towels and rap them around my hair and leave it all in for 30min then wash it out. I did this for 2 months and the damage that was caused was no more. I really think you should consult your salon stylist though. Good luck.

Shakiera C said that dying your hair straightens it too? I don't think that's true because I dye my hair all the time and it definantly doesn't straighten it. But i don't know.

Dying your hair and then chemically straightening really soon after will really damage your hair. But then again just straightening your hair can do a lot of damage alone so its really your choice.

Read the boxes carefully. I think you can straighten first and a week later color it.

My advise would be to leave it alone. I have recently FRIED my hair trying to do something similar. I now wish I had left it alone.

Ok, I had a friend who did this and it ravaged her hair. She was getting highlights and decided to have it straigtened at the same time and the next day I thought her hair might snap off. It was horrible, her stylist should have advised her against it but I think she was out to make money that day. It's your choice but I hope you have a month for your hair to go back to normal afterwards.

I would color it with a gentle color, and use a devise to straighten it. It would do less damage that way. Remember to condition condition condition!
