I have a 18 month old male Chihuahua and over the past few weeks he has developed this terrible habit of peeing on any kind of plastic bags or my boyfriend's bean bag chair. Does anyone know why this is or what I can do to stop it? We don't want to get him altered because he is from a champion bloodline but need other options.

Just becasue he is fom a championship blood line means nothing about his conformation or if he fits the breed standard well enough to be bred.Unless you are going to show and finish HIS championship all that means is that someone showed his praents enought ot finish them. Does not make him a great expamle of the breed.
Neutering may or may not fix this problem. Chis can be very hard to housebreak. But it does sound like he is marking territory and has develpoed a preference for plastic. I would try to dog proof the house and maybe contain him in one room when you are not watching him.

I dont really have a remedy for this but I have a Shih Tzu X Lhasa Apso he is now 7 years old but from the age of about 18 months he did the same thing and still does now - I have put the beanbags away and make sure I pick up all plastic bags out of his reach - this is the only thing I have been able to do to stop the problem - If I inadvertantly leave a plastic bag on the ground Im almost guaranteed to find its been peed on, my dog is also desexed so this wouldnt help you anyway.

Keep the plastic and beanbag chair out of his reach. Hopefully in a few months this will pass.

You should replace all of your plastic plates with ceramic ones before your next meal.

honestly neutering him is the only thing that will make much difference....

unless you also intend to show him there really is no point in keeping him intact - the health risks to unneutered males is testicular cancer which is quite common (infact second to accidents, cancer is the #1 killer of dogs)
