I worked for a Vet for awhile this is the truth, read you paper insert in the Advantage box..The product is water-proof but not soap proof, i.e. the dog can be bathed but not using a shampoo with contains soap (that's the detergent, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate)..You can buy SOAP FREE, also labelled as Hypoallergenic shampoo, just means no soaps again...The shampoos of that type are generally clear in "color" and have no scent, but better than a dirty dog. Wait 3 days after application for a bath for the product to fully absorb. And ther you have it ;-) Happy Pet Owners!

One thing people don't realize is that a vet is a business owner as much as a doctor. Yes, what they sell you will generally work, but they tend to exaggerate and say it's the only product that will do the job and then charge you 10x what a store would for the same product.
ANY dog shampoo is fine, flea medication is made to withstand bathing. If you're worried about it, try the TropiClean line of products, they are soap-free and promise not to remove spot-on flea treatments. I'm sure other brands label being soap-free as well. Just remember that you should never bathe the dog 48 hours before putting on the Advantage or 48 hours after it's been applied. Other than that, you should be fine.

I also use Advantage and give my dog a bath with regular baby shampoo for 12 years and have never had a problem, no fleas or anything else. I use baby shampoo as it can get in their eyes and it doesn't bother or burn them. Vets always get you to use the expensive stuff.

I'd switch vets. they're selling you garbage.
Advantage will literally work within 24 hours and get rid of most of the fleas.
The shampoos and other things for fleas are just an add on and not necesarry. Like everyone else said, you can shampoo with Advantix after 24 hours of applying the Ad.

After the meds have been on the dog for two or three days you are ok to bathe with anything you want.
The meds soak into the skin and water proof after a couple of days.
I bathe mine as needed and I use a monthly spot on products.
I have not had a flea problem fo almost 10 years.

Yep. Any dog shampoo would work. I wouldn't get a medicated one just because of the Advantage. Baby shampoo or whatever you use would be ok also. Advantage is made to withstand shampoos. I would change vets tho. I hate when they pull that stuff and try to convince you to buy their shampoos.

Yes, you can bathe her. Just give her the Advantage a couple days before her scheduled bath/groomer's appointment to allow the medication time to be absorbed into the skin!
