I actually got my first credit card when I was 17 and a senior in high school. I had had a bank account of my own for a few years and was mailed an offer.
I would NOT suggest getting a credit card until after college, though, to be honest. It's very, very easy to get into trouble with them. By the time I graduated high school, I had 3 credit cards charged to the max. It took me years to get them paid off.
Working on a cash-only basis or with a debit card is a much better -- and safer -- way to go all the way around, but especially while you're still in school.

Isn't it amazing? All these people who got a credit card early and screwed it all up....so naturally everyone under 18 is equally incompetant.
Yes, you can get a credit card as a minor, but you need an adult (parent) to co-sign for it.
You could be added as an authorized user to their card, but this does you no good in the future. It does not help establish a credit rating. In about 5 years, when you try to buy a car and they tell you that you don't have a credit score, you will wish you took my advice.
If you are worried that you can't control your credit spending, then place a $500 credit limit on the card.

No you must be 18, but you can always get a bank card (Debit) and use it at stores/online as a CREDIT card (as long as it has a visa/mastercard logo). It will be deducted from your bank account just like a debit card, but many functions of it are like a credit card.

Unless your parents add you as an authorized user, no.
Most banks issue Visa bucks cards though. They work like a credit card but they're like a gift certificate (you give them the money and that's your credit line)

yeah with your parents as a co-signer. or you can be placed on their accounts. other than that. no. these companys rather wait til you get into to college to literrally give you credit cards. FYI, someone who work at a credit card companty told this to me about students and credit cards. They look to see how much financial aid you have been awarded (your income) to give you a credit card. Stay away from them.

Yes ! like "simpl" said... your parents can add your name to theirs as another card holder...
My son had one at 15 but he also has his head out of his butt! So if you are truly a moron with money, stay away from credit cards till you get a grip on how to handle real life!
If you have your ducks in row, then go for it! Building credit for your future is a money saving process.
Good Luck for a bright future !

no and when you are 18 do not get one they are addictive! I currently have 3 and cannot afford to pay them the interest rate is sky high so I am getting into more debt. I wish I had never got one in the first place. If you really want something the best thing to do is save for it. Then you can be sure you want it!

Im 20 now, soon to be 21 and wish I never gotten a credit card.
im the type who gets into projects for DIY and cant help but shop and spend money on tools and all that. out of the 3 years of having my card and 2 years without work, i have spent nearly $5,000 and now im nearly out of money which has really gotten to me and made me cut back on spending so much.
I just wished i saw it sooner and changed my spending style sooner..............
just stay away from lots of spending on the card...

No, and DON'T DO IT! It's too tempting to buy a lot of stuff you don't need, and before you know it, you'll be up to your ears in debt, which can take decades to pay of!!!!
