because christians, not all but they seem to be the loudest and most common voices, are the ones trying to make everything christian. If something is not in accordance with christian values christians more often than not will try to eradicate it rather than realize that they are not the only religion. They try to legislate thier faith and politicians use this appeal to them. Pull back, and realize that the christian faith is not the only one, and try to co-exist with other religious beliefs and such and the reputation of the religion on these things will change.

Catholosism is struggling to exist in a world it does not, can not and should not control. Religion should be a choice, and something celebrated by its believers, not a shackle. So long as any religion forces its "faithful" to believe with fear and converts people with inhumane tactics and extortion (overseas aid) then it will have this stigma.

Stupid question, one of the dumbest ive ever answered!!!!!!!!!!
To ask that question look at yourself -christans see us as sinners that are going to a place ruled by an ex-angel to be tormented forever!!!!!! they call us sinners, and never look at us the same way again!!!!What about the feelings i get when i've known someone for a while, and they are deeply religous, or just partially and we are alright friend- until i mention that i do not believe in god,,,they never look at me the same way---i think that the many wars weve had because of religon( were thousands have been tortured and died, is alot worse than name calling) your question pin points your own problem with non believers

Interesting question but a tad hypocritical don't you think. Many times on this site and others, I have seen many hateful things said of others and their faiths or lives by Christians. Yet, you don't seem bothered by that. There is a quote from the Bible that I think will answer this question fairly easily:

"As you Sow, so shall you Reap", like it or not, many of your fellow Christians both here and in the world at large have attacked, vilified and in some cases committed crimes against others in the name of their faith. 2000 years of persecuting others, and you're surprised some people don't like you. Again, take the quote to heart, perhaps then you will understand.

well, where to start with this..you called atheists, agnostics and Pagans morally bankrupt with your last question...then you called agnostics weak willed and called Pagan's stupid and delusional... If you want to be a "good" christian are you not supposed to follow the teachings of Jesus? didn't he say something like remove the PLANK from your own eye before you try to take a splinter out of some one else's.. You should be ashamed of yourself, seriously. Your questions are baiting and insulting, and if you noticed, I did not respond to you with hatred or insults or name calling and I'm NOT a christian! I don't hate you for your beliefs....why do you hate so much? You do not represent your "lord" well at all.

I followed the link, and I think Selnyk asked a perfectly legitimate question. That said, I agree with you that reasonable persuasion is infinitely more convincing than mockery and petty name-calling.

It's just so hard to resist the complete lack of critical thinking skills displayed by biblical literalists.

Because Jesus said that we would be hated by the world. Thats ok with me, though, cause every crude comment I get on His behalf doesn't even compare to a grain of what He did for me. God is great. Just keep trodding on. I look at it as a jewell in my crown that I will one day receive.

Why do you think Christians have to resort to ad hominems and circular logic?

i.e:

ad hominem: This question, and your last question...

circular logic: The Bible is real because god says so. God is real because the Bible says so.

Aren't logical fallacies fun?
