"Employment - an all-time low". You've been conned. Yes it's one million + or - a bit, but that's the figure that it was in the mid 70's when, if you are old enough to have seen the Likely Lads on TV when Terry exploded and said "Don't you know there's a million unemployed?" With a million unemployed there's NO way we need to import people from anywhere at all. When it was a million 20 or so years ago it was a disgrace! It still is. What will happen is that when the workers from Bulgaria and Roumania come, as assuredly they will, they will accept very low wages and the employers will sack indiginous local workers for obvious reasons.
Then we'll have 2+ million unemployed. You've been warned.

I don't really understand what you are trying to say. If unemployment is down to an all time low, then it would seem obvious that we would need immigrant workers to fill the jobs you and others wont do. If those who are still out of work in this country would do the jobs that the immigrants are coming over to fill, there would be no jobs for them. Are you being lied to? no.

The unemployment figure should be 3.5 million higher. That is because that number are on the benefits register, when, even the government admits that they should be on the unemployment register. Your question confuses me a bit though, because, if unemployment was genuinely low, wouldn't that support the argument for more immigrants? As I have stated, however, the real figure is very much higher, so there is no justification for immigration.

Of course you are being lied to! New Labour has been lying since it got into power, and will continue to lie to the general public. Unemployment is slowly rising, and it will carry on rising, and is set to get worse in the new year. This government juggle the figures to suit, and that's not only for unemployment.

Uk unemployment figures bear no resemblance to the number of people out of work. the figure does not include sick workers or long term unemployed. In fact if we were to count the number of people in work and take that figure from the rest of the working age population about 10 times as many unemployed would be discovered. So yes you are being lied to but you deserve to be lied to.

Truth is that there is actually a shortage is some areas of the work force like building and working in restaurants or as bus drivers etc and many of the immigrant workers find jobs in these sectors, where the rest of us don't want to work

If the unemployment is at a low, then we would need immigrant workers to help out.
The two ideas are consistent.
