Perhaps you heated it beyond the boiling point? If you have a lot of porridge, it will take longer for it to boil, because it takes longer to heat up. Less will boil sooner, of course. Watch it closely.

I eat it everyday, and find if you cook it slowly, I used Quaker Quick the 3-5 minute type, boil the kettle, add the water to the oats and cook it at 50-60%, this prevents any or no spillover.
The key is the hot water from the kettle, like instant it allows the cereal to bloom before cooking, I do this for the instant also, only warm it for 60 seconds.

because it cooks from the inside out,it gets air bubbles that boils over,put a little straw in it to release the air.

Try a bigger bowl. That way it can boil away happily without you having to clean the glass plate too!

it has milk in in when milk is heated to the max it foams up that is why
