It's a stimulant due to it giving you energy and having carbs in it.Sugar in foods as well as added to coffee can temporarily remove fatigue, mild depression, and cravings to drink, but it aggravates blood-sugar problems, and withdrawal can cause depression, mental confusion, irritability, and strong cravings to drink or use.

Sugar is neither a sedative or a stimulant it is glucose. A large jolt of sugar may increase your energy but usually is short lived and you feel worse when it drops off. Meantime it is not longer considered to be the culprit that folks thought when they talk of children bouncing off the walls or being hyper. As the mother of nine children I've never seen this happen. It is now believed that the caffeine that is in chocolate or the caffeine in soda that so many folks freely give there children is the real cause of the hyperactivity some children occasionally experience.

When's the last time too much sugar made you tired? It's a stimulant.

Sugar is a mild stimulant. It brings your energy levels up quickly ( sugar rush) but then they crash down again just as fast. Its not dangerous unless you have diabetes or other problems. Too much and your teeth will drop out though!

sugar is both, it can act as a relaxant as well as a stimulant depending on the hormones available in the body, or the active hormones at that time as well as how the person actually feels and the situation they are in

It is a carbohydrate which gives a quick jolt or boost of energy...so in that sense, you could call it a stimulant. But, it's rush does not last very long...and when the energy wears off they call it a crash, because it is often a quick drop of your energy level.

Sugar is not a drug, it is an element of our energy intake.
Some people eat sweet things to soothe them, but that has nothing to do with any inherent property of sugar.
If you are tired that's sometimes a sign of low blood sugar, so eating anything sweet can make you feel less tired.
