funny thing, i was in guangzhou last october and i watched baseball. most english speaking stations don't show movies or primetime shows before 9:30pm and run until 1:30am. guangzhou just added another english speaking tv station and you're bound to see some sports. good luck.........

I doubt it. At least your hotel MAY have CNN or an English or Austrailian Sports channel and you would get reports. You better get aclimated to stepping back in time. Hell the toilets sometimes don't rise above the floor. Ever notice chinese women stooping to pick weeds on their lawns, or peeling sugar peas. You will understand after seeing some of their toilets. Enjoy your trip.
