Christmas already?
At age 4 months, there are several things you can get. The most important is don't buy anything that has small parts. Be sure to read the package of toys for age levels.
Outfits are good this young, but they grow out of them so fast. Any type of learning toy for 4-6 month olds would be a great gift. Those floor toys that have hanging plastic toys, mirrors, and other things that make noise when the baby swings their arms. Rattles and teething rings, a lighted soft teddy bear which blinks different colors (my personal favorite, they are so cute), a learning activity set that can be hung on the side of the baby bed or playpen, and anything that plays music or makes sounds. Babies like to hear those wind-up music toys which help them to go to sleep.
That is about all I can think of at the moment. I'm sure there are more that I haven't mentioned.

I think that opening a savings account for him would be great. Every year after, put a dollar for every age in it along with a present too.
At 4 months he really isn't going to understand presents. Fisher Price has something that is neat called Ocean Wonders Aquarium, you hook it on the inside of his crib and it looks like an aquarium with fish floating in it.

In fact, if you go to the Fisher Price website it will show you by age group the toys for their age. (If you look under the category of 0-5 months and click crib attaching it will show you some good ideas!)

well this age is a fast pace stage ..so by december hell be 6 months old crawling or scootin like crazy so now the toys that you lay them under and they can kick like crazy are fun ..
but they may try to pull their self up on it os you need to make sure its realy wide so it doesnt tumble over with them..if you do buy cloths do not buy 6 mths clothin they grow so fast it would fit them for a day hahah and the dryer usually makes things a size smaller so i would go for 12 mths cloths and just make sure it has gathers at the bottom like joggers do or if they are jeans can be rolled ..plus with the cold the extra material will warm him up but the shirt cant be to big cuz it will get caught on knees when crawling and kids usually stain up shirts fast anyways so you can get the exact size in shirts ..

i would go for toys though cuz you might not have the same taste as mama in cloths ,, so toys are best
they have those rockers bikes i loved that with my son who is now 3 and still uses it first the long handle folds underneath and then makes a rocker bike thingy later the handle folds out and the makes for a pusher bike for mama and then you take the handle off and he rides alone .last a long time-.best present ever..and the cost is pretty cheap at i think i got mine at 32 dollars but get it in november cuz in december it went up to almost 40 somthin ..well have fun babies are so fun to shop for !!! i love the holidays too ..so fun i have 5 kids and i lost count of nephews and nieces hahaha well bye padierma@yahoo.com

a baby that age would only need the basics: clothes, toys, etc. try getting his first christmas picture, have it blown up, place it in a nice picture frame with christmas-y decorations. i tried that for my nephew. i made a cross-stitched frame.

and the savings account also sounds nice.

he is to young to relize what presents or even christmas is. you can get books for the parents to rea dto him or some baby einstein music for the parents to play. When they r that young you can cater to the learning side as it is never to early for themto start developing their brains. Stick with books, music or visuals like colors, sounds. Baby Einstein is very good with this stuff. check it out.

Books: Good Night Moon, Guess How Much I Love You, small board books..

No matter the age, books are always a good choice.

The baby won't know you got him anything. So actually the gift if for the parents. You can get diapers or an outfit. Or you could set up a bank account in the baby's name with $30.00 in it to start with.

clothes & toys are good. but thinking down the road, savings bond or open a savings account. (the savings account would be good because every time his birthday or any holiday comes, you could put money into the account)

At that age...they haven't even noticed they have feet yet...don't go crazy buying expensive things...maybe some soft stuffed animals..but one's with thread eyes...NOT buttons..they can choke if swallowed..or a chew ring...BUT I'd hold off buying alot..cause the baby won't even rememeber!!!
