How do you get people to take off their shoes when the come inside your house?

I have found that when you already have pairs of shoes sitting just inside the door that people take the hint.

Make up a little area at the entrance where you put a little bench or chair and a nice shoe shelf (bamboo ones are very nice). Make sure you leave a few shoes in the shelf as a "prime". Then make up a nice artistic wall-hanging saying something like..."Welcome to our home...please leave your shoes and your worries here at the door." Mark a box or decorative jar with the label "Worries" and place it on the top of the shoe shelf. Make the shoe removal "ceremony" a focus of arrival for all your visitors.

Make up a cute little sign... "SHOES OFF AT THE DOOR PLEASE! "
There can be no misunderstandings or hard feelings for its in black and white ! I do this and with no troubles what so ever...I assume I will be taking my shoes OFF at other people's homes so I actually bring MY OWN SLIPPERS...
Another neat idea... go to you local dollar store and buy slippers for the number of guests coming... meet them at the door with a pair that will closest fit them...( they dont have to fit perfect.. its all in fun ) They will get a kick out of this and it will be a conversation to last weeks !
Don't sweat the petty stuff and don't pet the sweaty stuff !

I keep a very clean home and I never ask anyone to take their shoes off. The only exception would be visiable soil that you know would make tracks. Sorry but firiends and family are more important than my having to run the sweeper an extra time.

I live on a huge farm ..with 3 kids and 2 dogs, EVERYONE takes their shoes off! I have this neat sign I made up...
" The next person that
doesn't take their shoes
off at the door,will be
shot on site! "

The guests should be alert enough to notice that you the host isn't wearing any shoes and should follow suit. Just tell them to leave their shoes at a certain spot or shoe rack at the door. They will catch on fast enough.

Just be polite and ask them. Please take off your shoes.
If you want to be candid, what I do is have a mat out with shoes on it and people will get the hint.
Remember if you were going into their home how you would want them to treat you, and all will be well.

I don't to guests but my family members know my rules. I just don't think it's nice to ask a guest to take their shoes off. Just clean you floors when they leave. Lets not be so picky about a little bit of dirt.

Well if you're anything like my mum,you could put a note on your front door & if people ignore it she points it out to them!....friends,workmen anyone.
