What are the odds of me getting a job, I would love to go back to work 7years ago I had a back operation, I went back and aprox 5mounths after that I had another back operation. It took along time to get over it . Just over 5years ago I had a Tripple bypass operation, that went ok, but I developed pains in my Hip I was off of work for nearly a year and a half waiting for another yes I'm going to say it an operation. So I had a hip re-placement but that went wrong, it took nearly 2years to find out what was wrong, so I kept nagging different consoltants to do some thing and each time they said it will make me worse if they tried to put it write. What happend they did not put the muscle back on the bone properly so I have been in pain ever since. So 2weeks ago I went to a different consoltant and he said I have not only got that problem there is loosening of the joint so it means another operation but I am 62 years old will I ever get back to work. It's terrible being at home all time.

WOW. I am sorry for all of your health issues. Maybe you can find something you can do from home? Or atleast a Hobby? Maybe start doing eBay? I know it must be driving you nuts being home. I hope you can find something that works for you. Good Luck!

I know the feeling, and I am very unlucky too. 5 yrs ago I was rearended by a cop. I went thru back surgery, lots of therapy, and the back surgery got rid of the sciatic pain I was having, but I developed another illness on top of all the pain I deal with. Yes, Im living with chronic pain still, not sciatic, but pain all thru my legs, pain in my upper back and neck and arms and also my left hip.
I havent been able to go back to work for 5 yrs. Its hard staying home all the time like you say. All I can say, is you gotta do what ya gotta do. Im so sorry youre dealing with all of this. I know how tough it can be and all the depression that comes with it.
One last thing.....They got my case thrown out after 4 yrs of working on it. 750,000 case was thrown out due to a typo. The words...Penalty of Perjury were not on the original claim I signed in front of a notary. Yep, my lawyers fault. What a let down and it caused even more depression with me. Now, THAT is unlucky.

I went through the mill about 7 years ago. Spinal operation and a year later a hip replacement. I'm 'ok' now. But why not work from home.
Having a computer and internet connection opens a whole world of jobs. Web design, retrain yourself loads of information on the net. Start doing art or photography sell your stuff on ebay.
Go to car boots buy stuff to resell on ebay.
At worst you'll make no money but fill in your spare time trying.
And to answer your question yes you are unlucky but it could have been worse??

Find something that you can do at home.
List out all of your interests and spend your time doing them. Maybe you will be able to make money out of doing some of them. There are lots of things that you can do to make money at home, but the key is to enjoy what you are doing. At 62 enerything that you are doing should be enjoyable, if all you want to get back to work for is the money I am sure you could think of something that you could do at home, (ironing, typing service, proof reading) maybe these suggestions wouldn't be for you but I'm sure you can think of some other ones. Don't be afraid to try.
If money is not the problem just relax and find a hobby, you have been through a lot and you seem genuine. Just get a hobby to keep your mind off of everything.
Good luck

Its terrible all the pain you have had to endure and you need someone to give you a BIG HUG.
When you are ready to go back to work try doing something like Call Centre work where you are not on your feet all the time.
The NHS helpline are always looking for staff,or try your nearest Job-centre.
All the very best of luck, and take special care OK.

It all depends what you want to do.
I'm sure once they sort you out and you can get out and enjoy yourself, then, you will get such a kick out of life that you will not worry too much about getting a job. There are some major chains who employ the post 60 age group.
However if you are a Steeplejack - I have to warn you, you probably will only get a job if you have your own equipment and can be self-employed! Bless you and good luck.

I would try voluntary work for charities, Shops, animal sanctuaries etc, they always seem to want people, and meeting others may help in getting paid employment.
