There are several address' that are acceptable. Ma-am works, by Rank works. Using respect is the key.

Yes Ma'am, No Ma'am when answering a question. In greeting her address her by rank with appropriate salute. If you outrank her, address her by rank, and return her salute when given.

Well, if you're serving and she is superior: "Good Morning Lieutenant Easley Ma'am."

If you're a civilian, "Good Afternoon Lieutenant Easley"

If she's your pilot... "Morning Ma'am... nice flight suit today. We've got great weather and a good bird... let's go bore holes in the sky for a few hours!"

Ma'am always works, or you could address her by her rank

You would adress them by their rank, and in converstation, address them as Ma'am.

"Hun" doesn't work to well either.
I live next door to a Captain, and even when she is in civvies, I address her as Captain

By her rank and last name (LT Myers, COL Crumb, CPT Crunch), or by "Ma'am".
