Stick with the program your physical therapist set you up with. Exercise the limb as much as possible without overdoing weight and range of motion guidelines. Being told a year doesn't mean it's set in stone. Many doctors will tell you a time frame that is longer than they expect you'll need, so you won't stress out over how long things are taking to progress. Obviously not working, in your case, but with your prognoses expect a good recovery.

Okay, calm down. ;-) I broke my arm very badly last year, and did major damage to bone, ligament, tendons and nerves. What I did was to work out my arm constantly. I tried to move it as best I could every day like every hour and such. I recovered much better than expected, and also very much faster than expected. Keep working it...try to move your hand, etc. It's gonna feel funny for a while, but oh yes, it will definitely be fine. Have faith.

Do your therapy, and keep up on the latest research in regards to your condition. Christopher Reeve had a severe spinal cord injury and after intense physical therapy was able to move his toes - something that most people thought impossible! Good luck to you... do your "p.t."!
