I have already had my appartment exterminated once and my dog has been to the vet for a deep flea bath. I have continued to vacume and vacume...nothing is working.

My two large dogs had infested my house with fleas, and I found that using frontline from my vets office actually kills the fleas in the house as well. It is not immediate, but they do go away. My rottie is allergic to fleas, so I treat him year round with frontline. It is more expensive than the drops off the shelf, but is works soooo much better.

The only luck I've ever had, is to put the flea stuff on the dog or cat, not sure of the name but i know the vet sells it as do most pet store, not walmart though. It is the oil that you put between there shoulder blades and you use it once a month, it kills the fleas and doesnt let the eggs hatch. Also I used a fogger in my house about once a week, and like you said vacuum like crazy. I also limited the areas where my animals could go in my house, like just the kitchen, livingroom area. That way i didnt have quite so much cleaning to do.
Hope this helps!

The problem is fleas sepnd most of their time off the dog and are only on the dog to feed. THe rest of the time they are living in your carpet and every where else.
You may need to treat the house for three months or more as the eggs hatch over time and then come out.
The dog should be getting a monthly spot on treatment from now on.
Keep treating they are hard to get rid of but once you do then just treat the dog monthly durring the flea season and you should not have any more problems.

Tiffie,
First and foremost- you have to get rid of fleas forever on your pet by getting him/her on Advantage, then order either online or or get from an herb store "Pennyroyal" herb- it looks like oregano or any dried herb- comes in baggies of ounces / lbs. It smells wonderful!!!, and this is good because you have to throw it all over your floors and leave it there for 2-3 days and it REALLY REALLY works/is non-toxic to your pet, you, and the environment . Vacuum it up in a few days and Wha-lah- fleas B-Gone. Dispose vacuum bag as it may contain flea eggs, repeat in 10-14 days if you notice more fleas, which would be from eggs still left in your home or on your pet from round 1. I had a SEVERE infestation a few years ago and I SWEAR by this treatment. Good luck

Frontline works best - while you are waiting form them to die, try this

Get a shop lamp or a desk lamp - the spotlight kind that you can shine down on something. Fill a shallow dish, such as a pie tin with soapy water (the soap makes the fleas sink otherwise they can jump right off the waters surface) at night, put the tin on the floor with the water and shine the light directly on it all night. In the morning you will a bunch of drowned fleas.

Repeat until your problem is gone.

When we had a big problem with fleas we flea bathed the dogs and cats and vacuumed the WHOLE house including the furniture like couch beds and anything that has cloth on it then we washed all the clothes and linens and towels in HOT water and dried it on the hottest setting we had. I hope it works for you.Another thing is that someone else in the apts might have fleas and they migrate to your place..

A trick I learned that worked for me:

Go out and buy 2 flea collars. Be sure to get the kind that say they kill fleas AND their eggs. Cut them into pieces and place in your vaccum cleaner bag (might want to put a new one on). Vaccum often and the fleas and eggs get trapped and die in the bag.

You can't just give the dog one treatment and be done. It is ongoing battle. You need to exterminate again the same day take dog to the vet fot treatment, If they are that bad I am surprised your vet didn't recommend more than the bath like frontline or something. I always give my animals yeast and garlic pills and they never get fleas. fleas don't like the taste when they bite them.

Adams flea spray.
You have to spray it every 5 days for about a month, and everything should be good.

flea bomb might work. they are hard to get out of a rug. it's horrible sometimes. I had to use a steam cleaner and then flea bombs when I got them. use a flea bomb fogger that kills the eggs too. you might have to repeat in in a week to make sure. good luck.
