5-HTP is used by the body to make serotonin, which is an important substance for normal nerve and brain function. Serotonin appears to play significant roles in sleep, emotional moods, pain control, inflammation, intestinal peristalsis, and other body functions. It's actually spelled 5 HTP (5-Hydroxy L-Tryptophan)

it's a precursor to many neurotransmittors in the brain, kind of like a mild anti-depressant but without the side-effects because it's completely natural
