practice your nightly routin during the day, or sometime BEFORE bed time. And every time he does it get up and tap his nose and tell him no! and lay him back down. He will eventuall stop or get the hint. If he continues more than a couple days, then he just might not be able to sleep in your room. We prefer our puppy to sleep outside our bedroom to learn to "protect" the kids and the house from noises we might not here in thr bedrooms. If that might be your case eventually, you better start it early while they are "trainable" Good luck!

There is nothing wrong with using a crate to keep your puppy in there at night. Place a towel or a t-shirt with your scent on it (something you don't mind throwing away) in the crate with your puppy, maybe place a treat or two in the crate too...and have a consistent schedule - meaning, set a time, like 10 PM, and make sure you place her in her crate at the same time every night (consistency & routine is important). Tell your puppy "night night", so she knows that that means she is to stay there and relax, sleep. As he gets older, you can keep the door to the crate open.

There's no reason why a puppy should be roaming around in your bedroom while you are sleeping. It's actually more dangerous (she may eat something, swallow something, play with electrical cords). It also teaches your puppy not to pee/poop until morning.

Good luck.

Crates are like little caves for puppies and without a pack to huddle against for sleeping at night, crates are the only way they feel safe. You should create any puppy until almost the end of the first year...even if you leave the door open when they are bigger so they can go in and out when they want to. If you put something warm and soft in the crate-a blanket etc, the pup will not feel lonely and go looking for you to snuggle up to. They are pack animals by nature anbd you are "kicking him out of the pack" when you sleep separate from him. It's an emotional thing.

If this is a very young puppie, get one of those old alarm clocks that tick loudly ( like it's momma's heartbeat) and put in some where near the crate so he can hear it when he goes to sleep. You can also (for very young puppies) use a warmed towel (stick the towel in the microwave for one minute), rolled up so he can snug up to that and fall asleep.

My (now 10 year old- 90 pound lab) Hannah used to sleep in her crate with the door open even when she was over a year old. She would go in there when she got tired of playing with us and it was "her house".

When they have to go outside at night, you'll hear a whimper cry or, like Hannah used to do, she would get the hiccups and we would take her out, she'd do her business and go right back into the crate to sleep.

Try crate training. I had to do that with my puppy. But she could jump on the bed. Plus not more accidents in the house at night.

Well, if you want him to hate you, you could duct-tape him to the ceiling fan, and take him for a spin...

But I think I'd get him a chew toy and put him in a different room.

You should crate him and eliminate all of your problems -- current and future.
