I have a freeview box and want to maximise my signal. At presant i have it running off a normal roof arial. If i plugged it up to the old satilite dish on my house, whould it work ?I ask because if a freeview picks up a satilite signal through a normal arial which is only ment for terrestrial signal, then surely it would pick up a better signal through a satilite dish which is ment to capture a satilite signal..

Freeview that is intended to be received through a normal aerial (which sounds like what you have got) will not work plugged in to a satellite dish. This is because the signal that is sent to the dish is different to the aerial (though the end result is the same) and so your box would not be able to decode it.

If you're having trouble with reception on your aerial, it might help you to buy a signal booster to connect into the system.

you can get "freesat" if you have an old sky decoder without paying sky rental. might need a new card for ITV.

As freeview is digital if you are getting a good picture at the moment then "maximising signal" will not improve the picture. ie it works or it doesn't. if it rains it doesn't.
and it can't be improved to the quality of a really good analogue because of quantising effects; hence the drive for HD TV

basically digital TV is a rip-off. investing in technology to sell more boxes rather than invest in decent programming

Freeveiw isn't a Satellite Signal ... Its a terrestial signal using a different format So your best bet is either a Digital Rated arial or buy a signal booster.

as to your second point NO IT WONT

I am not sure about the whole satellite question but I also have free-view and I live in south east London not very far from the TV mast that provides television for the whole of the south east of England and there are still channels I can't get. So I don't think it matters about the quality of outside ariel.

Give or sell your box to your neighbour and get NTL cable. No aerials to worry about and free boxes and free installation and free telephone, they also do virgin mobile and broadband.
I feel sorry for anyone NOT on an NTL cabled area.
