We are a young 30 something couple with a budget for flights and hotel of around £300 each - looking to go somewhere hot, with beach, good standard accomodation, not to trashy, not too remote, not too far(!) and with at least some bars - egypt /morroco/tunisia keeps coming up but is it safe in this political climate? - Too much to ask??

Eqygt!!!! Stop over in Cairo to see the Pyramids, but then head straight over to either Dahab or Sharm el Sheikh on the Red Sea. There is fabulous diving (the Blue Hole near Dahab is rated top 5 in world!!) with great nightlife, and perfect beach weather.
The food is fabulous and so cheap! You get a HUGE english breakfast with the works for about 2 pounds! And eqyptians are lovely friendly people, especially the children. The flights cost a bit more to get you there, but accomodation and entertainment is really cheap (and good standard!)

Also - don't let your decision be swayed by "possible" terrorism (but on the same token, i wouldn't be going to israel right now)

A couple of years back I spent a wonderful fortnight in November on Antigua (the island in the West Indies, not the city in not Guatemala!) The weather was perfect - it was sunny, but not oppresively hot, and the sea was a great temperature for swimming. It's certainly safe, and I found everyone very friendly. I took a charter flight with a load of package travellers, but booked my own accommodation. The island is small enough to drive around in a day, but I would definitely recommend spending a few nights at different points on the island to be able to explore different areas. If you can find a hotel on Runaway Bay, I strongly recommend it... it's a beautiful, long, sandy beach just a short taxi / bike ride from the capital St Johns... I had that beach virtually to myself on some days. (I found the beaches at the expensive resorts, such as Sandals, were much more crowded.) And of course, you won't be disappointed by the bars and clubs in the Caribbean!

You can defo go somewhere like Tenerife or anywhere round the Canary's (Lanzarote, Gran Canaria etc) as these places are cheap to go and hot all year round. They might not be the nicest places but with £300 each you should be able to get quite a nice apartment/hotel. Look on lasminute.com Ive booked countless package hols on there. Then get saving for a blow out holiday somewhere further afield next year! Have fun!

Malta is quite an interesting destination for November breaks; cheap self -accommodation or half-board hotels, Mediterraean sea, warm weathr, the people speak English, the bars and cafes are fine, and it's not a long flight. Check out bargain offers in the travel sections of the daily newspapers.

Hope you both have an enjoyable break!

Not knowing what airfare would be from UK, I would reccomend a villa that I stayed at in Jamaica. My girlfriend and I spent a total of $860 US for airfare and accomodations. The villa is called Almond Tree Villa, and the owner (who is also from UK) has only started renting it recently which is why the rates are so incredibly reasonable. It's only a bout a 1/4 mile walk to the beach and the Villa itself is bright and spacious. We had a great time. For more info the website is:

Hope this helps!

Your budget is too low - you will end up in some dive and have wasted all your money!
Spend more and check out hotels at Tripadvisor - a web site where people who have stayed in the hotel tell you what it is really like. Personally would avoid locations suggested. For guaranteed weather Canaries are hard to beat - but you need 4 star accom. to avoid the football shirted masses.

You could plan to our place, OMAN, which is not expensive and also hot hot hot, but not so in November when you could still swim without the fear of catching fish in the nose... Depends whether the money could buy you the ticket which could not be cheap considering the distance to the Gulf..
