First off, there are some moronic short-sighted people posting to this question.
Secondly, I think if you want a traditional cake, then you should have one. If you want to avoid the taboo of have 2 brides or 2 grooms on top, then use a fresh flower cake topper. I ordered my cake from Publix and went with a very simple 3 tier cake with fresh orchids on it.

Well I am not gay, but I would suggest that either a traditional wedding cake be used, or (as the fruit and nut element symbolises the wish for the couple to be fertile and have children) simply any kind of cake the couple like to eat. Two girls: how about the chocolate cake to end all chocolate cake? Or white chocolate and raspberry with meringue? There are some fantastic ideas out there, I'm sure something will be ideal.
Another idea: how about having a "chocolate fountain"? Guests dip marshmallow etc in the chocolate - I had a leaflet given to me for this and I remember it wasn't particularly pricey. I might go with that idea if I ever take the plunge again!

I would get a two tiered cake decorated with colors that represented the colors of my wedding. I would try using ribbons and flowers to add some flair.
I guess a gay persons cake wouldnt be any different than anyone elses- a cake is just a cake.

For me and mine it will be traditional tiered white cake, buttercream icing, all decorations in icing. I don't know about a cake top yet, I would probably let her decide but I prefer icing roses in our colors.
I would suggest if the couple is older, something traditional, but if they are younger there are many cute new styles and different shapes available.
Frankly the baker couldn't care less if you are straight or gay, its money to them.
There are several companies who make very nice same gender cake tops, do an internet search.

I dont see what is wrong with a traditional cake. There are lots of same sex cake toppers out there now (ie 2 brides or 2 grooms).
Personally when (if) I have my wedding we are going to have themed wedding so the cake will fit in with that theme.

Are you assuming that gay people like certain kinds of cake, and straight people like other flavors?
I'm not gay, but I'm pretty sure cake is cake. Get what you like. Unless the cake is in an x-rated shape, no one is going to look at the cake and think "That there is a gay couple's cake."

I have seen a traditional wedding cake used with hearts, flowers, or some kind of keepsake used as a topper. Personally I think the idea of a tower of cupcakes is pretty fun!

At the end of the day the cakes not the most important thing is it! But the wedding and vows are! :-)

The same kind as for a heterosexual wedding. It can be any style you want. If you're concerned about a bride and groom figurine that sits on the top, most couples don't even use those anymore since they use flowers or some other decoration of their choice instead.

The only difference in a cake for a same sex wedding is that it would have two brides or two grooms rather than one of each on top.
