hey there!
Collars used to be quite dangerous for cats as they didn't 'yield' when caught on branches etc, but the ones you can buy nowadays have an extra elastic bitty for exactly that scenario so they're very safe.
The cat that owns me just now has a collar. My vet advised me that it was perfectly safe. This is the first time I've ever lived in a town, and i got him a collar as I would like to be informed if he gets killed or has an accident. Also, the collar he has just now is black and has little fluorescent paw prints on it that glow in the dark, which i think is safer for him.
My advice to you is to get any colour of collar that you like. Of course you are going to choose something that you like, but it's not as though you are putting bracelets and jackety things on her...it's a practical item that you want to be a little prettier.
If you're still in any doubt about whether or not to buy a collar...why not ask your vet next time you're in? After all, that way you would get advice that is biased...in your cat's favour! You can't say fairer than that!

URM........ collars are a practicle essential item for your cat, all the quality ones have a special device where you lock it, which means your cat is able to get free from it if it gets caught etc, also you should have your name and telephone number on a tag in case your cat gets lost and is found by a member of the public. Yes you can get it microchipped as well but this is only handy for a vet, its quicker if the cat wears a collar. Make sure there is enough space around the collar and your cats neck, e.g. that you can put your hand comfortably inbetween and there should be no probelms. Also people may take your cat because they assume it is ownerless and it may even be nicked, it sends out the wrong message. As for cute fashion accessories such as beds and carrier hampers, these are fine, as long as you take care of your pet in the proper way, you can buy for it what you want! Some readers on here are so stupid, just ignore them, they've got nothing better to do than have a go at people for no reason.

Well, nat, my cat does have a collar, and he's had one since he was 4 months old and I started letting him outside. My reasons are so that people know he's not a stray cat and so that, if he's in an accident, someone can get in touch with me quickly to let me know (he has a disc hanging on the collar with my address and mobile number).
I understand other people's concerns about collars, but many these days have an elastic section to help the cat free him/herself if it gets stuck. Don't be put off by other people's attitudes towards collars, make up your own mind. And so what if you want a pink one - as long as your cat's a girl, that's ok lol!

Both my cats have collars - one has a pink sparkly one!
If you DO decide to buy a collar for your kitten just make sure it has a safety device in case it gets caught - some have elastic so it stretches enough to slip over your cat's head, and some have clips which snap open easily if caught.
Also, check regularly it hasn't become too tight - kittens can grow fast and my two got through several collars each in their first few months of life.
There's nothing at all wrong with wanting to buy cute stuff for your much loved little kitty!

I don't think that there is anything wrong with a collar. They make break away collars that will let loose if the cat gets into something and is stuck. Plus, in some states you are required to register your cat. Where else are you to put your identification tags and rabies vaccinations? I know that if my cat got outside it would be more humane to have a collar on him with his name and my phone number plus his rabies tag than to let him run of the risk of being taken to a shelter and put down because no one knows where he belongs. If you want to buy accessories for your cat I say go for it. An animal is like a child and if you want to spoil it at least it won't get an attitude and treat other people awful. I say spoil your cat.

To purchase a "cute" bed for your kitten there is absolutely nothing wrong with. As long as there is nothing on or in the bed that can harm the kitten. I have to say NEVER put a collar on a kitten. I tried to save a kitten that the owner put one on it and it got out. As the kitten grew the collar didn't. When we found it and took it to the vet it was too late, all the vet could do was put her out of her misery. I'm sure this owner never meant this to happen, so please there are so many ways to spoil our beloved pets (like the cute bed and wonderful treats) plus tons of our time and affection. Good luck with your baby.

Cos theres so many people on here that like to send abusive replies to your questions for no reason! Ive had them in every question Ive asked, even the most innocent questions Ive had b*tchy abusive messages back, they are all obviously from people who have nothing better to do than read though each question and find some tiny way to take offence to it and then writer nasty messages back. Ive never heard of collars being bad for cats- if you have one of those cat flaps that need a magnetic thing on their collar for them to get in then they'd have to wear one. Cats have been wearing collars for years, I cant imagine there being too much danger.
You sound liek a caring owner and a pink collar sounds very sweet! Ignore the idiots who have nothing better to do than trash your questions!

i don't see why collars are "fashion accessories" escpecially when they can save your cats life. If he/she is an outdoor cat, a collar is the only way to know, w/o getting too close to your cat, that he is owned and possibly just got lost. It can also help outdoor cats be seen at night with a bright collar if your cat is black or brown. My cat is black and wear's a bright color to help protect him from oncoming cars. Be safe and have your cat wear a collar even if he is jsut indoors. They have safe collars that break off very easily if he gets caught on a fence or is hung up on something.

I have a pink collar with little diamond in for both my cats. They were bought from a pet store. There were no warnings of danger to wear? I like to keep collars on my cats with bells as it warns the birds they are near as i hate to see a bird being killed by cats. Also i need the collar to wear their addresses on in case they wander.
If you bought your cat clothes then i think that is unfair as they have perfectly good coats of their own
