It depends on what the sin is.

But in most instances, "If you dance, you pay the fiddler" saying, fits.

Forgiveness from God for most sins require apology, retribution, council, reconciliation, all or some.

For instance, Say you killed a man.
You've asked God for forgiveness, but if you lie about what you did, or hide from the law, your forgiveness from God is short-lived.

Yes. God will punish a sin but you can repent from it and you won't get as severe of a consequence
