fungi associated with videotape spoilage?

The fungal kingdom is extremely diverse - are you trying to identify a fungus you've seen or is this purely theoretical? I might be wrong, but I think that it is unlikely that there is a fungi that specifically lives on video tapes and nothing else, or that there is only one type of fungus that grows on videotapes. If you are trying to identify a fungus you would be best looking at it under a microscope - if you don't have access to one then ask at your nearest university - in general most university staff love a challenge and I'm sure would be more than happy to help you out. If you're looking to find out for a homework exercise, ask your teacher to be more specific or to direct you to an appropriate book etc. to find the answer. If you are looking for the name because you want/need to treat it with fungicide, most fungicides are general to a range of fungi, but not to all so you might have to try more than one - to be honest if this is the case then you're probably best throwing away all your videotapes and cleaning your shelves etc. well (fungi quickly spread through spores so throwing away all your tapes will prevent cross contamination), and buying new ones or DVDs instead.
