I think it's the need for immediate gratification. We've become a society of "me, me, me; my needs must be met immediately." I've noticed the same thing ~ even on elevators, some will get on, press the same button that another has already pressed and, though there is sufficient room for more people and more are headed that way, they'll press the button to close the door!
How many times have you waited patiently for a parking spot only to have someone whip around you or, worse, nose their car in from the wrong direction, and take the spot you've been waiting for? I've seen people do this to the elderly! I want so badly to give them a piece of my mind, but in today's world you never know when some irrational idiot is going to go off on you.
People need to develop habits of considering others again, gain an understanding of long-term gratification and get over themselves. There's a whole world full of people and we all have needs and the needs of one individual are not of paramount importance over the needs of another (unless it's a medical crisis, of course).
What they don't seem to understand, and the example you've provided is a perfect example, is that they are insulting the person that has already 'pressed the button,' regardless of what the 'button' might be.
Thank you for asking this question. If you've made even one person *think* about their behavioral habits, you've accomplished something!

It's the same thing with elevators - even worse, because the light is lit. The lit light says, "Hello, I have already been pushed." And every person will walk up and push it again.
I think the reason is that most people just have no common sense. It's odd that people who do that can hold jobs, and even raise children.

i do no longer would favor to face up till 7:30 on college days, in some situations even 8:00 is awesome. Bus comes at 8:30. My alarm clack broke, idk, like 7 months. So I set 2 alarms on my cellular telephone somewhat. One for 7:00 and yet another at 7:30. So I press push aside so i do no longer would favor to be annoying about it beeping. flow again to sleep. 2d alarm is going off. Press push aside. Sleep in for 15 more beneficial minutes. 25 minutes if i'm not likely to gown up. Oh sweet pixie stick spongebob, i elect my sleep. each college day I in reality get a million-6 hours of sleep. 2 days contained in the previous I in reality were given an hour of sleep, yet very last nighttime I were given 7!! That through no ability takes position! haha. So yeah, snoozing-in is inevitable lol, push aside button is my bestest pal ;)

It is with love that people press the button. Perhaps not all know that you know how to press, you could also have been deep in thought and you never noticed, someone is extending a loving hand. Please appreciate, it could be worse if all pass without showing any concern.

Don't you know that those things only work for that person.. I have often wondered that myself... when they do that ...i want to get smart and ask them if they think I'm dumb or what?? do they think i didn't press it and i am just standing there in hopes that it changes automatically for me..

My nan does that - she thinks the lights will change faster.
My housemates habit annoys me more: if a web page is slow to open, she thinks moving the mouse around the screen loads is going to help!!
Be patient, people!
(Though now I'm being impatient with them, so I should be quiet!)

actually the more you press the button the quicker the lights will change because it will recognise that there is more than one person waiting.

Ha ha I dunno, its just human nature. Like if you are waiting for the lift, the next person to come along will press the button too, even if it is already lit up
