assalam-o-alikum!
Ramadan helps me alot being closer to Allah Almighty !!!in Ramadan , the reward of performing any DUTY e.g praying 5 times a day,, is 70times more than in ordinary month !!!
The main objective of Ramdan is to feel how poor ppl feel when they have no food to eat , n the rich dont even spend a penny on them !!;
this also gives a concept of charity to poor i.e ZAKAT.. which is must for a muslims to give to ppl lower than him, in financail status !!!

rd_rsd: they're not cheating, subhanAllah :) Muslims are actually encouraged to get up before sunrise and eat, (but moderately is best). The fast is the same way I think Jews also have always done it - from sunrise to sunset only. We also believe that is exactly how Jesus fasted.
Ramadan is a very special time. Islam says the devils are chained up during this time. We get multiplied rewards for the good deeds we do during this month. The entire Quran is recited, a part at a time, each night at the Mosque during Ramadan. The Muslims gather every night (those who can) to break the fast with a prayer, followed by a nice community meal. It is inspiring and unifying. It is a wonderful opportunity to work on improving oneself as well.
By the way, jihad means "struggle", which is a big part of the fast. Jihad starts with the struggle to improve oneself, by gaining knowledge, improving one's manners and behaviors, etc.....doing it for the sake/pleasure of Allah.

You know.. it actually does b/c it makes me ask myself whether I am sincere about doing this for God or not? Because believe me it's easy to sneak away and have a bite of a chocolate bar :P
During Ramadhan we're also encouraged to increase our ibadah (Islamic good deeds.. such as reading the Quran). Plus, at night after our last prayer of the day, there is another prayer which Muslims do together at the mosque , called 'Teraweh' and it is done only during Ramadhan. So it does make us feel that this is a special time of the year, which makes us want to be closer to God.

Thanks for your question and, as you stated in the remark after the question, the answer is YES. I do feel closer to Allah in Ramadan.
Regardless of what faith we have, we feel closer to God when the spiritual side within us is elevated. Fasting definitely does this. And by fasting, I do not mean food, drinks and sex hault, I mean spiritual fasting. Fasting from sins, trying to be the best you can, as Allah wants you to be.
Add to this, prayers and meditation that you do more when you are fasting.
Try fasting from dawn to sunset once and you will feel what I am talking about.
Bless you

one of my muslim friends said, and i quote ' when i wake up early i really stuff myself so i dont get hungary '
so i was thinking if ur goal is faing then surely u must not be thinking about food but god and all ppl in need, but my mates more interested in making sure his belly is still there after ramadam is finished. besides they eat 2 big meals a day, so its not really fasting is it
