i want to change the look of my brick fireplace into more of a riverstone look. do they make such a product? where can i find it?

I have seen manufactured 'stones' that are flat on one side and look like field stones on the other. You mortar them in place like bricks. However, I don't know if you can put them directly over existing brick, the extra weight might be too much.

If the brick is just a facade, not real (structural) bricks, it might be an easy job to pull them off and replace them with the manufactured stones.

Maybe you could even paint them. There are some wonderful paint finishes, like sandstone, or tuscany wall type stuff.
Or if money is no object, applying a layer of riverstones over the top, well cemented on......

Instead of covering it with an ugly river rock look, why don't you try covering it in with wood? Do detailing and layering until it looks like a fireplace straight from a Victorian receiving room.

If you have the light colored bricks you can actually go to the store and pick out a color of stain that you like and dab it on the bricks with a rag. You can do all of them or just some of them. My dad did this on the outside of his house and it turned out reall nice.
