always buy software and use. so the creators of the software benefit. dont have this mindset of want every thing free. software is also like music cd. if u buy pirated CD or copy from the original, the producers, distributors and music company will go bankrupty. same for software creators. always buy the software. never go for free versions.

Sarah, there are some basics you need to know about software download before you decide.
There are two different software licenses that are legally available for download on the Internet: Freeware and Shareware. Freeware is completely free. Shareware is usually available for for free on a time limited trial version and then when the trial period is over, if you like the software you can upgrade to the full paid version.
There are many sites that will allow you to download software. I know that Beta Marker (http://www.betamarker.com ) offers freeware and sharewaree download (and it also tells you how much every sharewar costs after the trial). Another good site that offers software downloads and reviews is Download.com http://www.download.com/ .
If you are new to this a great site to learn about software download is Download Squad http://www.downloadsquad.com/.
Other people will probably try to tempt you to download serials and cracks for shareware but my suggestion is: give a shareware a shot by using the trial period and if it's good buy it. otherwise, stick to freeware.

When you get "free" software, you're getting either a trial version which will expire after a couple of weeks, or a weak version that is missing some vital part... like saving files. I suggest saving up and buying the real thing.

Well there are number of sites but the best one is download.com.
I advise you first download "download accelerator" from same site because it helps with broken softwares and saves time otherwise required for re downloading.
