Get it removed by your doctor. He will give you a general anesthetic to the area and take it out. You won't feel a thing. You will have to probably take antibiotics for a few days to make sure it doesn't get infected but it should be good as new after that.
I would not risk doing it yourself. If it gets infected and spreads to your blood stream you will be in a very sorry state needing much more medical attention.

Soak it in hot water. As hot as you can stand it. As the tissue softens, the embedded thing will, usually work its way out. Gentle pressure adjacent to the area can be applied. BEWARE OF INFECTION! Keep it clean and use antiseptic. All of this is assuming you don't want to see your physician.

Use a needle to get the top layer of skin peeled back and then take tweezers to it.

if you are able to see it without digging inside your foot-then take a pair of tweezers (clean the ends off with alcohol first) and remove it.
if you are unable to see it without digging-then i would seek medical attention to remove it-if you try to dig to get it out-you could push it further inside your foot, which could result in it damage your foot more, getting too far embedded inside your foot which could cause infection....
wrap your foot up with gauze and get to the dr or urgent care to have a dr safely remove it...

I always heard you had to have it removed to reduce the risk of it travelling to your HEART and killing you...don't know if that's really true, but I believed it for a long time. Still do, actually.
