That is a very good question and it reqires to be reasoned on! I am an X Catholic and have become such because of several questions similar to that one , and having left the Catholic faith, I have never looked back! There is no logical answer, to your question though, just like there was none to my questions, except, that it is NOT God's way!

The headline says Pope excommunicates archbishop, but if you read it, the archbishop excommunicated himself. Rome took no action. Molesting boys would also bring about excommunication by the same concept. Excommunication means you may not take communion, literally without communion. Anyone not in a state of grace is excommunicated. This archbishop excommunicated himself by sowing division within the Church.
Going to confession gets you unexcommunicated in most cases. From the point of view of the press, this is just as big of an issue. Within the Catholic Church, the issue is important because this did not stop the archbishop from being Catholic, what the archbishop did was separate the Zambian Church from the rest of the Catholic Church. This is a schism between a Metropolitan and a Patriarch. It is no different than the Great Schism that split Orthodoxy and Catholicism.
When a bishop is excommunicated he generally takes his parishes with him. When a priest is excommunicated, he gets replaced if he isn't penitent. When a Metropolitan is excommunicated he takes not only his diocese but the other diocese within the Metropolia too.
The news article was not about a formal excommunication. There was no action by Rome. The archbishop automatically excommunicated himself. Formal excommunications are very rare. Further, most excommunications can be lifted simply by going to confession.
Excommunication is not a punishment but rather a statement that the current state of affairs do not permit embrace in communion.

This is an issue that was for long swept under the carpet and they are hoping it goes away just as easily, so this is a much needed question.
The answer you will usually receive from within church ranks is that these priests are human and have erred. That the difference is that those condoning marriage in the priesthood are unrepentant about flouting an established practice of the church, while on the other hand the molesters have repented and are not campaigning for their practice to be accepted.
For me this is not a valid argument as the priests who abuse children should not just be excommunicated but also prosecuted.
however with the church's culture of silence and steeped in tradition, they as usual are trying to minimize the damage by keeping things as quiet as they can, and for some this is preferrable to dragging the church through the mud, however for many others it will lead to questions abotu how truly pure the church can now claim to be.

The church pays more attention to protecting its doctrine than its members.
When a priest advocates for marriage, he is "confusing" the rest of the church with a statement that contradicts church teaching. Usually they're told to put those ideas in a can, not for public display, but if they continue to advocate for marriage, they'll find themselves canned.
On the other hand, when a pedophile confesses, its assumed that he is trying to change. They've had treatment facilities for mentally ill (including alcoholic and pedophilic) priests for years. They'll keep working with someone if they think they're working on fixing the problem.

Because like most religions, they are experiencing a severe shortage of people to lead a congregation or church. That is why churches have to keep adding on and expanding, because they can't find anyone to lead a new congregation. They continue this until the individual is lost in the crowd.
This is a result of churches not following the teaching of Christ, in that everyone is taught the same, including how to preach and teach, so that should a new congregation need to be formed, everyone is qualified to lead the new one.

As I suggested on your different question, there become no 'protecting his strikes' - purely declining to defrock him for strikes (although appalling) 2 a protracted time after the reality while the guy become sickly (and died interior of four months.) on an identical time as I choose that they had certainly made an occasion of him, I infrequently see it as a decision deserving excommunication.

Pederastic priests are just relocated and sent abroad ..put in charge of third world orphanages where they can continue to abuse children don't you think? the church is only concerned to keep it's reputation clean the poor kids can go to hell on a pudding cart as far as the church is concerned.
Please don't confuse pederasty with homosexuality, homosexuality is between consenting adults it is not an abusive situation...Pederasty is the abuse of a child who is not in a position to refuse or to give consent.

It is because it is a religion run by men for men. I suppose a man could understand why if you are not allowed to get married and have a normal sexual life that you might give into temptation and mess with those who are smaller and weaker. Seems to me that if the pope is really infallible he could fix such a glaring slap in the face of God.

We are not surprised when we learn that “Christian” organizations throughout the centuries have dishonored God by adopting pagan doctrines, condoning immorality
When individuals or organizations call themselves Christian, others have the right to assume that these are promoting Biblical Christianity. But Jesus warned: “Be on the watch for the false prophets that come to you in sheep’s covering, but inside they are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will recognize them.(Matthew 7:15, 16)
Those who come to be past all moral sense alienate themselves from God by their course of loose conduct. (Eph. 4:17-19)
Find a religion that does not tolerate immorality of any kind

why dont you become a Christian? yes i know its almost the same with Catholicism but its much better. Im a Christian and i usually dont care about what the pope says. Catholics are more of religious practices and Christianism is more on faith. Anyway i dont have a coherent answer for your question but if you do change religions, be a Christian.
