Recently someone here asked if parents should be allowed to smack their children and if the "lack of discipline in the home resulted in the monstrous things we see on our streets today".
Someone wrote she has "a very well adjusted, kind, & respectful 10 yr old who is not physically punished" - 7 thumbs down
Someone else wrote: "lack of discipline is resulted from non-communication between parents and children" - 8 thumbs down
Someone wrote that in England "the behaviour of kids has improved dramatically since the 1970s. This is down to the non-smacking regime at schools and homes" - 7 thumbs down
I also replied the question and gave the examples of Germany and Sweden were corporal punishment of children is outlawed and it doesn't result in increased criminality - 5 thumbs down

Another very good answer was this: "say a child gets in a fight at school & his parents smack him, then how is that teaching him a lesson? The child is getting punished for violence, yet the parents are being violent towards the child." - 6 thumbs down

What is wrong with these answers? I really don't understand this.

I mean all of these answers are just about facts, are you this much afraid to hear them or what?

Thanks for the answers that you agree with me and people if you don't agree with me then tell me why, you just give me thumbs down but you don't reply

Haha... I get thumbs down, people who say they agree with me get thumbs down..... but no answer about what was wrong with these answers
Yeah I understand.... people who favor physical punishment of children don't like to explain anything..... just like they prefer to smack their children rather than to explain them why they should do something or not.....

There is nothing wrong with the answers. It is the people giving the thumbs down that are in the wrong.

On a side note, the thumbs rating is meant to be an indication on whether the answer was appropriate to the question, not on whether you agree with the answer or not.

People are very quick on the thumb draw, unfortunately.

Any of the answers that were blaming the parents for their children's actions should have thumbs down.
I am a mother of 3. And I did spank my children when they were in the wrong. The laws of child abuse is the fault of children not being disciplined in this manner to teach them right from wrong. That is only my opinion.
The thumb's down may not necessarily mean that the rater didn't like the answer. It could have been that the answerer had hopes of being chosen as best answer if all the others had more thumb's down than their answer.

Bravo! Good question and well-put. These same people who are so quick to give us a thumbs-down response are the same ones who are too lazy to talk to their children instead of hitting them. Hitting is quicker and far easier than having a meaningful line of communication with their children. I have 3 and they are wonderful, happy, bright kids... the only time I ever touched them was maybe when they were 3 or 4 if they attempted to put a fork in an outlet or something... there are some things you can't reason with a child of that age about. If you teach children that it'sokay to hit, they will do it. Some people don't understand the messages they send to their kids when they hit them, (do as I say, not as I do?!?) and, (it's okay to hit others when you're in a position of power) Sheesh! I thought discipline was supposed to teach them to do right? We could write volumes on this!

Well I don't know how many kids you got or if you have seen how kids act today but Think it has a lot to do with time out & talking things out too much. Sure you can sometimes talk it out but you know what it don't always work like that. You watch tv like Maury kids come on there telling the parents what they will & will not do. Parents today are to caught up in trying to be their kids best friend & not the parent. I say you raise your kids the way you want as long as they are not abused(beaten). As far as the thumb thing so what you are going to be just fine no matter if they are for you or not. People will be be people !

because people who do smack kids are too ashamed to admit to smacking there kids either that or they just dont agree with it and they have wildly out of control kids who show them up in public who swear at them who do all sort of things and they dont want to admit incase other people are against it i hold my hands up now and say i smack my niece if shes naughty then i tap the back of her hand its the only way kids are going to learn i think

I FEEL THAT THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH DISCIPLINE SOMETIMES IT JUST MIGHT HAVE TO BE SOME CRACKS. YOU JUST HAVE TO BE CAREFUL THAT IT DOESN'T TURN IN TO ABUSE.
