As far as I know it varies depending on things like a persons previous criminal record, was it self defence or unprovoked, were any other crimes involved, eg mugging, the severity of the persons injuries resulting from the assault and no doubt the judge in the court. From previous experience as a victim of assault on many occasions, (ie 'domestic violence'), it seems that the punishment does not necessarily match the crime. It seems to me that punishment is often minimal and pretty much a waste of time! A 'slap on the wrist' type of thing if you know what I mean. Things have improved but in my opinion there is still a long way to go!

It depends on your state. I'd look it up at the district courthouse in prior cases. It depends on your prior criminal history, relation to the victim, and if there is a weapon involved.
In the Maine title 17A there is no statute of simple assault. All assaults are serious and untolerable.

I doubt you will do any detention center time. At maximum, they are going to make you're taking some anger administration instructions and do slightly community provider alongside with a good. See in case you will get your roomate to say no costs, then afterwards kick the bum out. ;) in case you get a good lawyer, you will possibly be waiting to get it dropped out of your checklist thoroughly.

should be a misdemeanor.......something like a max of 2 years..most likely you will get fined and stuck in anger management classes, maby probation.
