I'm in high school and i just had my nice phone stolen after i forgot it at school. anyway, is it possible to ask the police to trace my phone, so maybe i can get it back? id really like to know if i should even waste my time reporting this to the police. (I also live in malaysia, so just fyi)

While they can be traced, the cost of tracking an individual phone in man hours would be astronomical!

They can be traced but only when in use. This is a very expensive process unless the state orders it. The cost comes from man hours involved in tracking down and triangulating multiple cell towers then having the police stand by waiting for the location to be reported to them so they can respond immediately before the phone moves away from the area it was traced to. Best to just go get a replacement.
