Supposedly the bible is without error-the literal word of a perfect God. Those who read it with an open mind know otherwise.

Hello again. I decided to visit your page after I sent my reply on 9-11. On this question , are you asking about the reasonings some people use as a rebuttal in hopes of strengthening their stance on a piticular subject ? For example : An arguement over "curse words". If I'm write , your analogy would be about the person that says 'matter -o-factly'....." you should not curse at all...It says so in the bible". Even though the reality is that at no place in the bible does it say don't curse. It says "thou shalt not use the lord, thy Gods, name in vain"..If you dig a little deeper you'll find out that even that statement has nothing whatever to do with saying G.D. this or G.D. that and so the use of profanity isn't mentioned. The reason people say that it is , along with many other misidentified commandments is simply because of personal interpretation. The Bible is a marvelous history book and covers countless generations. It has been re-written so many times that the exact count is unknown. Even William Shakesphere lent a hand...er.I mean quill for a King James re-write in hopes of making the Bible a bit more enjoyable to read. When you consider these facts the I suppose if you took the meaning from one era and combined it with a proverbial stance from another generation and then combined the political correct nature of todays world , it might say something about not saying ,"sumbitch" , but I'm not totally sure.Thats the beauty in The Holy Bible. It contains the plans that God has for the world and we are to determine the correct method to follow his wishes. Some folk even say it's the direction to Heaven.

"BIBLE" = (B)asic (I)nstructions (B)efore (L)eaving
(E)arth.......amen

That on it's own is not a complete answer, but,if it is in the Bible that means that it is from God. There are many reasons why we can believe that the Bible really is the Word of God. One reason is that the Bible is in harmony with science. In ancient times people throughout the world thought that the earth rested on something. In West Africa, for example, people once believed that the earth was supported by a coiled snake, with 3,500 coils above the earth and 3,500 coils below. Yet, in harmony with science, a Bible writer wrote over 3,500 years ago that God is “hanging the earth upon nothing.”-Job 26:7.
6 The greatest proof that the Bible really is from God is its perfect record in foretelling the future. Unlike human oracles, God truly knows the future; everything he says always comes true.
7 Hundreds of Bible prophecies were fulfilled in ancient times. For example, 700 years in advance, the Bible accurately said that Jesus was to be born in the town of Bethlehem, and that is what happened. (Micah 5:2; Matthew 2:3-9) In addition to many other prophecies about Jesus, the Bible also foretold that he would be born of a virgin and would eventually be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver. Those prophecies also came true. Surely no human could have foretold those things!-Isaiah 7:14; Zechariah 11:12, 13; Matthew 1:22, 23; 27:3-5.
8 Many Bible prophecies are being fulfilled in our time. Here are a few of them:
• “Nation will rise against nation [in warfare], and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be great earthquakes, and in one place after another pestilences and food shortages.”-Luke 21:10, 11.
• There would be an “increasing of lawlessness.”-Matthew 24:12.
• “In the last days . . . men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, . . . disobedient to parents, . . . without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, . . . puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God.”-2 Timothy 3:1-5.
Do you not agree that these things are happening now? The truthfulness and accuracy of Bible prophecy show that the Bible is no ordinary book. It is the inspired Word of God!-2 Timothy 3:16.
Has the Bible Been Changed?
9 Suppose that you were the owner of a factory and that you posted a list of rules for your workers. If some enemy changed what you had written, what would you do? Would you not correct what had been changed? In the same way, God does not allow people to change the truth of his Word, the Bible.
10 Those who have tried to change the teachings of God’s Word have not succeeded. When we compare the Bible that we have today with ancient copies of the Bible, they are the same. This shows that the Bible has not been changed over the years.

The people that use this response are saying that the point they are trying to make is validated because "it is in the Bible". Instead of using reason and logic to try and justify their point, they think that these words alone will carry enough weight to "win" the argument. They don't know that isn't the case, especially with someone who wants more than just a weak argument like "well its in the Bible". A lot of things are in the Bible, like stoning your children to death as a form of discipline, but they seem to conveniently ignore that kind of stuff.

This is the standard responce of the church when they really dont have an answer, or the right answer contridicts what they want their sheep to belive. The church is in the business of controlling the masses and they dont want people that think for them selves around. So they give generic answers to get them frustrated and then they leave.

I respect bible, as i respect my own scriptures...but if someone tells me that Bible is the only Truth in the world...i have strong reservations.

Truth is not the monopoly of a religion, a person, a prophet or a nation.

Eastern relgions have more philosophy in their scriptures than abrahmic religions... so if someone tells us their book has absolute truth...we just smile

people will direct you to the source of what they believe, and most of the time will take the bible and make it fit their own ways, so they will say the bible say's this or that! so read the bible for yourself and you will recognise if " It's in the bible" or not

It's what you say, when what you have been told to believe is irrational and can't be logically supported in any way.

The second answer after that one is I know that the bible is true because the bible says that it is true.

So concept of faith isn't it.

It's all about belief. Generally, religion wants people to believe without asking questions, and that is their only answer (which, in their opinion, must never be put to doubt). That might have worked in the Middle Ages, but not nowadays...
