The essential soul wants to leave the body certainly-what spiritual being wants to be trapped in a material body? The question is whether the soul is spiritually developed enough to be aware that it is a part of God-if it is aware of the light and love of God then it will be unable to resist the urge to return to the source of life. If however it clings to materialist desires such as drug addiction it will find it difficult to move away from the material plane. That is why it is better to do the learning while you are alive-the spiritually aware continue on their journey to God after death whereas the unenlightened might spend an eternity in their self imposed darkness.

I think that at the time of death if the consciousness has some balance, eg.some responsibility to be fulfilled, some attachment with the physical world, some incomplete dream which is yet to turn into reality, then the mind does not want to leave the body, it is attached with the I mine and me etc.But at some point of time in this struggle between life and death the mind understands that the body can no longer carry on with it, it calms down and helps in the process of leaving the body.So its the soul as you asked and not the body that does not want to leave the soul.

In real meaning Soul is everywhere.. if you mean soul by Jivatama (individual ego-a shadow of soul) then the answer is
Our physical body is attached to our pranic body (like russian dolls..we have five bodies, physical, pranic, manomaya, vigyanmana, Anandmaya then soul).
At the time of death all other bodies leave the physical body which is tightly woven into other bodies by pranic body.
Hence at the time of death, when the other bodies leave the physical, the pranic stictches are broken, hence there is lot of pain.
This phenomenon is felt too by some during OBE, when they feel thousands of stictches breaking all of a sudden before astral projection
The death occurs, when soul (Jivatma) decides to leave the body...hence it is the pranic stitches (due to desires), which need to be broken...before the jivatama leaves the body

I think it is the soul that does not want to leave the body. The soul is afraid to leave its shell since death is an uncertainty.

right that is my answer to an analogous previous question: Genesis 2:5 The Message God formed guy out of dirt from the floor and blew into his nostrils the breath of life. the guy got here alive—a residing soul! A soul is what you're - mix of breath, physique and spirit. On loss of life the breath ceases, the physique returns to dirt (rots or is incinerated) and the spirit returns to the God who gave it. Genesis 3:19 ...for dirt you're and to dirt you will return. Ecclesiastes 12:7 ...and the dirt returns to the floor it got here from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. At that element the soul ceases to exist till the resurrection at which era you become a soul back. Matthew 10:28 and don't be worried of people who kill the physique yet won't be able to kill the soul; yet fairly be worried of Him who can wreck the two soul and physique in hell (Gehenna - the grave). this might in easy terms take place if God does no longer resurrect you, yet he... a million Timothy 2:4 ... desires all men to be saved and again to the certainty of the certainty. And what God desires, God gets with the aid of fact he's sovereign.

totaly depends on your personality and how much you love it down here on earth. if you have a great job, big, loving family, and lots of loyal friends the your probebly put up a bit of a fight and become a ghost that guards your home.
ghost storey:
but if you become one i don't think it means you can't still go to the after life cause i heard a local storey one of a family who had a ghost in there home, this ghost was mischievious he would move chairs open doors and misplace items around the house, but never any thing really distructive, my gues is cause he built the place, he was one of the builders and died doing construction work.
well one day a big storm came in and light struck real close to the house( i forget if it hit it or not) and aver sence then the ghost's pranks have stopped, i personnaly think it was god wanting him back up in heaven, or perhaps he just wanted to go himself.
back to the answer:
now ifd your life sucked like you had a horrible job, no family, and in dept and been stuck there you whole and you were miserable then you might welcome death as your final eternal vacation.
or even if you had a good life and you are old retired love you you still might welcome with the state of that "hey i lived a wonderful here on earth now lets give it a go somewhere else".
hope this this little bit of info helps and sorry for the ghost storey there, i tend to wander off a bit.

It depends on the amount of fear that is associated with the idea of dieing.
Some dread the idea and hang on for as long as possible. Others are giddy with excitement at the prospect of returning home to the source. These souls can't wait to get free of the body.
It can be joyful or a horror depending on the perspective of the one dieing.
Love and blessings

I'd think the soul would want to be well out of a limiting hunk of flesh while the body would be desperate to hang onto that which gave it value.
