Not all Christians believe that speaking in tongues accompanies the acquiring of the Holy Spirit. In fact, it is actually unbiblical and false doctrine that has caused a stumbling block for a large number of believers.
This is a great site with some very informative scripture references.

I am a Christain, Before I give you a web-site, Let me say, speaking in tongues is NOT the evedance that you have the Holy Ghost, Have I spoke in tongues, YES, Have I given Prophecies, Yes, Have I interpretated Tongues, Yes, But that is not proof of the HOLY GHOST, The real poof of the HOLY GHOST is this, if someone says they have the Holy Ghost & they deny God's word, then something is wrong, How can the spirit of God deny his own words. Now if you want a web-site, This is my church website, I can not give you enough scriptures to tell it all, after you go to this web site click on the icon The Contender, & type in evidence of the Holy Ghost or any title with the Holy Ghost mentioned. Those people in Acts, on the day of pentacost spoke in someone else language. I hope this helps you, If you can't find the topic, you can call or email the church, they are more familar with what tape or Contender it is in. The Contenders is free & you can download the subject yourself. Go to www.fachurch.org

I got involved with a church that proclaimed to speak in tongues. Did I ever do it? I blabbered something out, but had no earthly idea what it was. That was about 20 years ago. I no longer believe that one is gifted with speaking in tongues. I really think that all these gifts were given to Jesus' 12 disciples, and when they died, so did the gifts. One reason I say this is because, the disciples were given this gift to speak in tongues so as to communicate with people of different languages. They indeed were blessed with the gift of speaking in tongues in order to communicate with the people. Another reason why I say this is because they were also given the gift to raise the dead. Many people everywhere proclaim that they indeed have these gifts. They can speak in tongues, they can heal you of sickness, they can cast out devils. But you know what, THEY CAN NOT RAISE THE DEAD. And that was one of the gifts that the 12 disciples had. Just my opinion.
I know I kinda got off the subject of what you were looking for, but I don't believe in the speaking in tongues so I can't sit here and quote scriptures on the subject. Have you ever been to one of the churches that do speak in tongues? It is scary. You feel as though Satan himself is gonna jump right out of you. My children were small at that time and they were terrified.

Hi Cjunk
Yes I can help:
Here is Jesus letting us know what happens to them that believe!
Mark 16:17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Here is the Acts confirmation of what Jesus said:
Acts 2:3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Acts 2:4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 2:11Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
Acts 10:46For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
Acts 19:6And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
Those are the five verses that talk about tongues in acts
Now here is paul thanking God for Tongues:
1 Corinthians 14:18I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:
And last but not least Here is the Bible commanding Christians; "NOT TO FORBID SPEAKING IN TONGUES!"
1 Corinthians 14:39Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
Listen honey, Many people don't read the bible for themself and are thought things that the Bible don't teach. One of these things is the forbidding of tongues. Please if you come across this type of person in your life
Use Jesus's method of handling this being
"He that has a ear to hear let him hear" Or Jesus in Paul method Being; 1 Corinthians 14:38But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
God will reveal what he will to who he will
So don't worry if anyone rejects the teaching of the Bible
Not forbiding the speaking of tongues
Just remember what Jesus said:
Revelation 13:9If any man have an ear, let him hear.
This is the revelation
God bless Dear,
"Giggles"

That was in the Day of Pentecost with Peter. Everyone got them back at that event. In our days we all have different gifts. Not everyone will speak in tongues. Some people cannot speak tongues but can interpret them.
