A police officer can only enter your home without a search warrant or your consent for several specific reasons.
1) If they have reason to believe there is an immediate danger to the occupants or the community at large like a gas leak or a person in need who can not get to the door. This would also include reports of violence in the home where the officers can not make contact with anyone or they believe the person who answered the door is denying them entry in an attempt to hide the victim.
2)They see evidence of a crime from outside and that evidence is of a type that can be destroyed if they wait to get a warrant.
3) They are actively chasing a suspect who runs into the house.
4) If they have a valid arrest warrant for a person and they know for a fact the person is in the home.
The constitution allows people the right to resist illegal search and seizure but if you deny the police legal entry you can be charged with interfering with police. Being in the shower does not really constitute a refusal to open the door but all situations are unique.

It depends, do they have a warrant? Did when they knocked on the door see pools of blood on the ground? Did somebody call 911 from the residence and hang up? Did it look like the door was opened forcefully when the officer got there? There are a lot of circumstances that can come into play there. If the police officer just wanted to ask you a question then now he/she cannot just enter your house.

Depends on why we are at your house. If it was a 911 call that was disconnected and I can get in, I'm going to if no one answers the door. If it was a reported domestic, I'll make sure everyone is OK. If I think you are dealing drugs or maybe just robbed a store, then I'll probably get a warrant unless I'm actively chasing you into your house. But then you probably wouldn't be in the shower.

They can not come into your home without having a search warrant. But, if they have good reason to believe someone is in danger, they can come in.

Policemen will forcibly open your door if they have a warrant. Thus, when policemen are knocking at your door and you have no problem, open your door right away so that there will be no trouble.

They can come in if they have a search warrant or an arrest warrant for someone at your address - or if you invite them in. Legally they aren't supposed to enter unless they hear or see anything that appears to be a crime in progress - that would give them probable cause to enter.
