2 Samuel 6:6-7
6And when they came to Nachon's threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth [his hand] to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook [it].
7And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for [his] error; and there he died by the ark of God. (KJV)

Because he violated God's clear direction on how the Ark of the Covenant was to be handled. It was not a rebuke against Uzzah but against the Israelites, David, and the priests and Levites. "Solomon said, "There is a way that seems right unto a man, but the end thereof is the way of death." Even today a lot of people think that they can just do what they want, and if they are sincere God will let them get away with it. Read your Bible again that is not the way it works.
