Try to bring a variety of high protein foods that tend to quell hunger. Depnding on what type of food plan you plan to use. Obviously snacking is the main problem, relatively easy to eat on the go foods are good such as hard boiled eggs, small sized cheeses -if you're on a low fat diet-string cheese- if on a low-glycemic index high protein, you could have those "laughing cow" cheeses that are foil wrapped. Small containers of nuts such as almonds so ou can limit the amount buy a larger bag and fill small plastic baggies or plastic containers with a small serving like 12-15 nuts. I heardan "altoids" size tin ,when emptied, filled w almonds is an appropriate size for dieters. Fluids that you like to drink that are calorie free -bring plenty-if you can do water great. Low cal soup is filling. Dont allow yourself to get too hungry try to eat something small every 2 hrs if poss. If you have to get a vending snack get the peanuts or something as close to it as poss. Candy and other sugary stuff will only let you down later onafter the sugar rush making you more hungry. Activity at any level, dont wait to meet some unattainable goal of going to the gym eeveryday or b4 working-which can be daunting-just do any kind of walking/dancing/going up or down stairs, whenever you can.every little bit helps. ge some light in your waking hours Being p all night makes us sluggish then its hard to get out of the slump so look into counseling if it's getting ou down too much. Plan to get out of it its not a good long term schedule. Its not family friendly though people often start doing it to ease childcare issues-one parent can work one shift and the other the opposite thus lowering childcare hours. But it can come back to bite you in termsof your physical and mental health.
Also the increased salary attached to off shifts is attractive and people quickly adjust their spending habits once they get the raise in salary to meet that, so try to not use that part of your salart if you have the good fortune ot to need it, so you can not rely on it. It can be like"selling your soul to the devil".
Go to/go back to school or plan another way out of doing htis shift for th elong term. Good luck to anyone who has to do this.

I am a turnaround scheduler in the petrochemical/refinery business. As one who works nights from time to time, I understand where you are coming from. Your diet is thrown way off. Even though after 3-4 days, you have made the switch to nights, you still get sleepy at night.
This is what I do. I take a low carb energy drink that lasts me 10-12 hours. I am also on a weight loss product called Stack Body Tune Up. I have lost 32 pounds in 69 days.
If I can be of further assistance, let me know.

I used a plan called Shapeworks to lose 95 lbs in 8 months, and did no exercise to do so. And with Shapeworks, what time youwork does not matter, it fits into everyones schedule. I also got a great coach with the program that helped me through my weight loss. Here is where I found it: www.loseweightnow.com/tfward

Having spent years doing 24/7 rotating shift work I know that it can seem hard doing the graveyard shifts but many gyms are now open 24 hours per day - its the same as if you work a "normal hours shift" eat well and excercise see if there are any 24 hour gyms in your area.

Ahh a night person, night people rule! 12 hours is a long shift so maybe just exercise an hour so you have time to do something else. I would do it as soon as I woke up around 4PM or when ever you get up also maybe squeeze some in on your lunch break. I would exercise 2 hours on days off. I need to exercise as soon as I get up or I find other things to do and never end up doing it. You can also prepare your meals in advance on your days off then freeze them in easy to grab packages.

Screwing with sleep cycles is a sure way to make you want sweets/fatty foods etc..
Try to run 2 miles before going to work and watch what you eat.
