As for getting her down the stairs, have her lay on a blanket and then get another person to help you carry her by picking up each end of the blanket (to make a sling) and slowly the two of you can walk her down the stairs and place her in the car. You should be able to find a vet. that would let you at least make payments on her bill.
My heart goes out to you..I had to "put down" my doberman when she was 12 years old because she too couldn't get up anymore. I used the "blanket sling" idea on her and was able to move her to the vet without causing her any pain.

I don't even begin to have an idea as to what you should do and I feel so bad for you, my mom has a golden retriever that is getting old and in a lot of pain, she would never take him to the vet to have him put to sleep and I don't blame her, I don't know if I could do it myself either, but at least she has property that when he dies she will bury him on as she has done two previous dogs, you can always call the vet and ask them how much it is first before just guessing that you don't have the money for it, it might not be all that expensive, and as far as lifting her up hopefully you have some friends or family that you are not thinking of that might be able to help you lift her up or do it for you if you are unable to, I wish there was a way I could help you

I had a dog put down and you are right, hardest thing I ever did. If you can't lift her yourself, find someone that will carry her to the car for you and take her to the vet. Many vets will forgo the fee if the dog is in that much pain. Remeber, they do what they do because of their love of animals. Maybe you could make a deal to donate to the humane society later or something. Good luck.

Mate that sucks, l wish you the best,
First get the vet to come to you, vets and very understanding, and you will find you will be allowed to pay off the debt, ( payment plans )
or maybe you have friends who could helps you out, l just could not being myself to take an old dog to the vet, that need to be put down, so a friend came and took him, l felt much better knowing l did not have to take him myself.
My friend brought home a certicifate of death, and him ashes, we we buried on our farm,
good luck

You often don't have to pay for euth up front to a vet. Depending on the relationship you have with your vet they also might be able to do a call out - my partner's parents had to get the vet to come to the cat to put their malamute to sleep because he was 80kg & in no fit state to move.
I think you're making the right decision because it sounds like your girl isn't getting much joy from life anymore so it's the kind thing to do.
If you hit brick walls with the vet then I would call the local SPCA & ask for their help.
My thoughts are with you

You need to ring the vet and see if you can pay in installments at all. We had a 16 year old labrador who had to be put to sleep. He didn't really know what was going on any more and it was the kindest thing for him. I would have loved to have kept feeding him pills to keep him alive but you have to put yourself in that position. I still miss my dog now but it's better for him not to be in pain. You vet will advise you on the best way to move her or if he can come to you.

I am so sorry about your beloved dog. I am also sorry to say it is time to let her go. You are caring and dont want her to suffer and thats great I am sure you gave her a terrific life. Being as heavy as she is I think you should find a vet that makes house calls so she wont be moved. Thats really the only thing I can think of so you wont have to lift her. Good luck and I am sorry!

Please, please, please take her to the vet. Explain the situation to the vet and ask if you can pay in installments. Also ask if they have a house call service available. Our vet clinic will make house calls for an extra fee to put the dogs down. I would think a good, caring vet would try to help as much as possible. You can stay with her when she gets put down and just let her know you love her.

I am so sorry that she is in pain. I'm sure she gave you lots of joy and love.
Is there any way that the you can ask your vet to come to your home? I would ask your vet to see if you can pay in installments if there are financial issues.
Your pet was part of your family. Please take care of her when she needs the comfort of her family. I think euthenasia is the way to go.
I can't believe there are people on here that are suggesting that you overdose your pet on medicine or to kill her yourself. I can't believe the heartlessness and I hope that they never have kids or pets of their own.

first off, I just wanna say that i feel for you man. Losing a close friend like that is one of the hardest things to do, espessially when you have to take care of her. That being said, if you can bring yourself to do it try to put a sedative in her food, so she passes out and carry her downstairs and end the dogs life when it is sleeping soy you can bury it in peace.
