Sometimes I do, but most of the time I use a spreadsheet I made with a column for plate #s and column for time, and a column for space identification. It looks good in court if contested. The chalk method is still widely used.

I live in Australia. Most of the time I see them using chalk, however a couple of times I've seen them using this "invisible pen/marker" that leaves no mark to the naked eye, but when they return they point a fluorescent torch at the tyre, which illuminates their marking. This is supposed to prevent people checking their tyres, rubbing it off or moving their car.

Yes they do... Although I think they realize that people are getting wise to that.
I've also seen where they put a thin piece of metal or plastic on the top of the tire. When they return to see if the vehicle has been moved if the object is still there, they know it hasn't.
I once watched an officer put one on my tire. I made note of who the officer was and took the little round washer thing to the police department and taped it to his window with a note saying "Thanks but no Thanks".... Of course I also drew a smiley face on the note.

I am afraid so! At least they do here in Missouri, as I know someone who does that for a living.
