I live in Sylmar, CA and have a very bad signal. Almost all my channel availability is in the blue and violet range with no DTV availability (though if I input somewhere like Pacoima they do have DTV signals). If I get a large directional antenna with a preamp such as the Terk HDTVo, would I be able to receive over-the-air HDTV even though the signal is somewhat slightly away?

Just get the Channel Master 4228 with the CM 7777 preamp. It's the best in the industry, man!

Beauty of a digital signal is if you lock on, it's as if the signal was close by. Curse is if the lock doesn't stay on all the time, then the signal comes and goes. No in-between fuzziness.

You might have a fighting chance w/ a large directional and a preamp. You might also want to check your local electronics stores and see if they or customers in your area have been successful in getting a consistent signal lock using a directional plus preamp. I did that one time just for analog and they basically dissuaded me from trying because of distance and terrain (ended up getting DirecTV w/ local channels).

Probably Not a directional antenna does focus but if you are out of range then thats it. But I would try it,you might get some atmospheric bounce
