Isn't it obvious? Xenu wrote the book of mormon, not Joseph Smith ( a fake name if I ever heard one).

Try these out for size:
2 Nephi 19:19:17 "Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows; for every one of them is a hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still."
The lord apparently won`t show mercy to orphans or widows.
God will make every man kill his brother and then force him to eat "the flesh of his own arm." 2 Nephi 19:19:19 "Through the wrath of the Lord of Hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire; no man shall spare his brother.19:20 And he shall snatch on the right hand and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand and they shall not be satisfied; they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm --"
The Nephites drove the Lamanites away, killing them with "a great slaughter". They killed so many that they couldn't count them all. Mosiah 10:10:20 "And it came to pass that we did drive them again out of our land; and we slew them with a great slaughter, even so many that we did not number them."
Racisim is also the flvor of the week, God cursed the Lamanites (the ancestors of the Native Americans) causing their skin to turn dark and making them "loathsome" to His people. 2 Nephi 5:5:21 "And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them."
Enjoy.

I'd like to point out that the book of Numbers is in the Bible, not the Book of Mormon. There is a lot of violence in the Bible too. And yes, Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) read both the Bible and the Book of Mormon.
As for your question about Nephi-- My point of view is that Nephi was told to kill a wicked man so that Nephi's descendants would have records of the gospel. With those records they could learn about God and could learn to have good, moral lives. Without the records, the descendants might have become wicked people who did bad things to each other.
You don't have to agree with my point of view. But I would like to let you know that there are many good things I get from belonging to the LDS (Mormon) religion. It is helpful to me and it has helped me to come closer to God.

Compare it to the Bible - first born sons, killed by God. Brother killing brother (which was provoked by God), the entire world drowned by God. Not exactly 'nice'.

Hmmm.....so you must not believe in or agree with the bible either because there is also killing, adultery, lying, and all manner of wickedness in there...didn't you know? oh, you must be too busy slandering the Mormons.
The Book of Mormon is a history of people on the American continent...of course there is going to be violence and unrighteousness - they are human!!!
get over it

SO you were Mormon? That explains it then. Now you have turned away from that cult and looking for something? Keep on searching and you will find what you are looking for.
