With few exceptions, undocumented aliens may not take employment paid or unpaid.

One of the exceptions, needless to say, is an internship in the embassy or consulate of his country since the embassy (but not the student) enjoys diplomatic immunity, and the consulate consular immunity.

Another might be an internship at the United Nations, which is subject to the Headquarters Agreement with the USA. It is up to the UN or other international organization whether they would accept such a proposal.

Another one that comes to mind is an internship within the university system which would be no more or less "legal" than the student's presence as such.

If there is such a thing as a cross-border or Internet-based internship that might be a possibility, however far-fetched. I have long been fascinated by cross-border enterprises: these have existed for some years along the Canadian border. Aside from factories (where supervisory personnel may cross over under license but goods have to be transferred by truck, passing through Customs) there is the famous Haskell Free Library and Opera House, bisected by the frontier.

Conduct a discreet inquiry on some reliable pesons on this matter without the INS knowing it. If proper, apply for internship if allowed even if the student is undocumented.

If the student is undocumented, how can he go to CSU-LA in the first place? I thought you have to be either a regular undergrad or an international student, but you have to be legal in order to go to school. If he's undocumented, it means he's not even listed on the school roll list; thus, he's not able to intern anywhere, except probably intern for one of his instructors. If you mean he's an international student, the answer is yes, he can do an internship. Find a company that you want to intern in, get an invitation/offer letter from them, and go to the school's Office of International Services to get a Curricular Practical Training (CPT) authorization.

I see...the real life lessons our schools are teaching is how to break the law and get away with it as much as possible!

wow!

I guess that morals, belief in the legal system, loyalty to your country, and a lot of other neat things really did disappear in the 60's.

Congratulations...you are successfully enabling ... like they did in Florida just before 9/11.

Can't really help u on this one. It makes me happy to see someone such as yourself doing what it takes to help a student realize his goals and plans. Remember: A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Thanks
