why do we say 1,2 4 when we test microphone.?

It is too whistle like, for a microphone test and it is to test if the microphone is workin, not if the gain is up

You mean 1, 2, 3? People also say "testing" and "checking the mic". What are we supposed to say? "Hi, um, does this work? Is this thing on?"
