Should ALL of the Bible be taken literally. If not, then how do you decide which parts to take literally? The answers to a lot of my questions involve people saying that I shouldn't take the Bible literally and that Jesus loves me. I want to know what Christians think of a literal Bible.

It depends. I recommend you read and then take what you learned, your own thoughts and talk to God and see what he's got to say. Some of it is literal while other parts are not, while other parts were literal but not for us because it was a reflection of the culture of the time period and culture changes. ex braids, tattoo's earing, were signs of worshiping pagan god's etc, but now it's just a style so it's cool. some things said are even like how today we say it's raining cats and dogs, people back then i'm sure didn't say that but they might misinterpret taht and actually think it's raing cats and dogs, you see? sounds confusing but dont stress so much just live it man, and just ask God to show it to you like he wants you to see it. it's a relationship that you have with God and your relationship gets stronger day by day as you spend time with him

About 150 years ago some "genius" decided that the Bible had to interpreted "as is" and taken without any interpretation at all. IF you do this, the Bible is loaded with contradictions. Use the Bible to assist you in making moral decisions if it helps you, but taking the Bible literally is actually a bastardization of the way it was intended to be used: as allegory and metaphor.

Well Jesus took it liberally. He lived a perfect life and followed the Law. When he taught in parables it related to what the people of the time understood ,farming ,fishing homemaking. The bible is like Route 66 if you follow the map your OK. God revealed his plan for salvation on his map and showed he could be trusted in earthly things.Jesus was the destination and we are to trust his promise to speak for use in front of God.What Would Jesus Do?
What happened in the Bible happened.

It is God's word, and dangerous not to take it literally. If there are prophecy's, visions, dreams etc - you can't take them all literally, but should compare scripture with scripture to decide their meaning.

I think the bible is written to teach us about God, I think we need to read it to get the feel of who God is and what He wants for us, I think it is meant to be read completely I don't think God wants us to scwabble and get caught up in the intricate details and miss the whole point of who God is. thats what the pharassis did.

Yes! You do have to know how to interpert it. I cannot give you a lesson here as you don't really want it, you simply want to slam the Bible so why waste my time.

it all depends on your conviction if you will take it literally or you have to interpret in depending on the situation. sometimes, the verses that we read served as a sign if whether or not we have to pursue or stop on something. take it as how it your heart feels it.
