Yes you can. I travel frequently and I always carry food in my backpack. Sometimes, I will stop at McDonalds in the airport and carry the food on with me. Of course, that is on United. Just to be safe, I would call the airline.

There is no problem taking sandwiches or crisps from home onto a flight. Of course, you cannot take drinks on board - unless you are in the USA and buy the drinks after going through the security checkpoint.

For the sake of other passengers, do not take sandwiches with "fragrant" ingredients. I once sat next to a passenger who brought a very smelly cheese and raw onion sandwich. DISGUSTING!!!

you used to be able to do so, now with all the problems we are having, best thing is to check with the airlines the day before and get a current list of OK items and not OK, it changes fast from day to day.

Call the airline and ask. They might think that your sandwich has a bomb.
