Don't listen to them! If your are aiming to loose weigh or getting a good body, eating good carbs like pasta (with a healthy sauce, usually the bad carbs comes in what the pastas are mixed with like some meats or sauces) and Potatoes is not bad (always checking the quantities!) The thing is that in the low carb diets most of the weight you loose is not fat, is just water, which is a problem cause you could recover that weigh very easy, and avoiding this good carbs (never bad carbs like fries potatoes or white bread or things like that) leads you to another thing, "slowing down your metabolism" cause your stomach get use to not to eat them, which is a problem when you start eating them again, 'cause you probably will gain weigh faster!
If you r trying to loose some weigh, just add more fiber from oat meals or cereals... to your diet, and avoid the bad carbs!. you can also practice the eating 5 times a day diet with small amounts, it will accelerate your metabolism and it's better for the abdomen if you r planning to work on it!
Luck

It's not necessarily low carb foods to watch out (it's a proven fact that the Atkins Diet is actually bad for you, not good), but "Low-GI" foods.
These are foods with a Low Glycemic Index, which means that they are broken down slower and the nutrients released into your body gradually, keeping you full for longer and with more energy.
You need carbs in your diet for energy, so don't cut them out altogether.
I was always taught that your biggest meal should be breakfast (with carbs) and then getting smaller throughout the day. For dinner i don't usually eat carbs because they can be stodgy, and are not good to eat if you are going right to bed because they will just sit there are not be burnt off (because they are energy).
However, they are great to eat for dinner if your are planning to go out at night - because they give you energy to last all night!

Try to cut out refined carbs. Dont eat white bread or rice. I cut out bread altogether. I eat potato and pasta but only at lunch. I prefer to eat meat and veg or salad in the evenings. If you eat rice and pasta eat the brown or wholemeal option.

In general - good carbs are based on whole grains. If you 'avoid white foods' based on white flour, white rice' that would really help. Eat whole grain bread instead of whole wheat or white. Eat whole grain pasta instead of white. Eat brown rice instead of white. And try to reduce your intake of corn and potato products - also can be known as 'bad carbs'. Also eliminate things with white sugar - and subsitute with artifical sweetner or sometimes honey.

No more chicken parmesan. Anyway, be careful of these low carb diets. Carbs are energy. Often low/no carb diets give you too many saturated fats and cholesterol, which is bad on your heart; and they tend to be low in antioxidants which aid in preventing things like heart disease and cancer. Just stick to low cal and low fat and exercise
