Here are some recent thoughts on abs from my 360 Blog of September 10.
There is no site specific way of losing fat... the old myth about working your abs to burn belly fat isn't true. To get rid of love handles, you need to lose overall fat. That happens with exercise and watching your diet. More on that below.
The most effective way to lose fat is aerobic exercise in the "moderate" fat-burning range, ideally first thing in the morning before you eat. When you wake your body is ready to burn fat and your levels of growth hormone are highest at that time. Later in the day it can take up to 30 minutes just to put your body into a fat-burning mode.
Another overlooked way to burn fat is by lifting weights. Skeletal muscle has very high caloric needs... almost twice that of adipose (fat) tissue. Put on a little muscle and you will burn calories all day even at rest. Be aware that skeletal muscle weighs more, so with this approach you may see your weight increasing while your body fat is melting away. Not realizing this often stresses folks who think they should be losing weight as a measure of fitness. Forget the scale, look in the mirror and you will be happy.
To lose a pound of fat, you need to eliminate about 3500 calories. You can do this by burning more with exercise or by modifying your diet to reduce intake. If you do a Google search on say, "swimming calories" you will quickly find a website with tables of calories burned for a given exercise. You can use such lists to estimate how many calories you are burning up with your routine.
For diet, keep a diary for a couple of weeks counting calories, grams of protein, and grams of fat intake. It is easy with online sources of nutritional information (type the name of the food and calories into the Google search engine) and packaging labels. That will let you quickly figure out where the fat is coming from in your diet.
Fat gives you 9 calories per gram. So take the number of grams of fat, multiply by 9, then calculate what percentage the fat calories are of your total daily calories. Restricting the calories from fat to about 20% of your total intake is ideal for a maintenance diet... that isn't overly restrictive. Of note, you need some fat in your diet. For instance, the body uses fat to produce hormones. Once you have a picture of how to modify your diet, you can drop the diary and just go back to it occasionally if you are wanting to tweek things further.
There is a subset of questions that goes further and asks about "How to get a six-pack?" The answer is the same. Six-packs are 20% abdominal exercise and 80% diet. There is one caveat... abdominal muscles will form in the position that you work them, so be certain to pull them tightly toward your spine while doing crunches, etc. Also, during most lifting, the "core is active" which means that you should be stabilizing with contracted abs then too. Fail to do this and the abs will form, but bulging outward and the result is not attractive.
If you are trying to build muscle as a way to lose fat, then you may need to increase total calories and specifically your protein intake. I target about 0.8 g of protein per pound of body weight each day when actively building. That is far more protein than most people need in their diets.

You have to do carido like running, jumping rope, walking, stair climbing - anything that makes your heart beat faster and makes you sweat to lose fat and sit ups to build muscle - build up to 100 a day. Should do this 30min-1 hour 4-5 days a week - or even 6 - do something you enjoy - get a friend to do it with you - join a gym if possible and get some personal tranier sessions - negotiate how many when you join.
Also - eating smaller meals 4-5 times a day will increase your metabolism, reduce fat and build muscle - give you more energy.
You can also add some weights/strength traing 2-3 days a week. This will increase metabolism as well, reduce fat and build muscle - eat a lot of veggies, some fruits, grilled chicken, fish, LEAN red meat once a week, beans - lean protein - try to avoid a lot of carbs (bread, pasta- white breads in particular) that often.
See a nutritionist if you want for specific diet advice. Many magazines like SELF and SHAPE give exercises for getting a tight tummy and toning, etc so you may want to get one of those to look at but you can search google.com or yahoo.com and type in stomach exercises and do what comes up in that search but no matter how many sit-ups you do, if there is fat over your muscle, you have to burn the fat with cardio to see the muscle.
Good luck! :o)

I'd love a bank balance like Beyonce but it's not likely to happen either. Your stomach is not supposed to be completely flat, it has all your reproductive organs behind it and is supposed to be rounded, it is not natural to to be concave my friend and it actually looks more attractive for it to be slightly rounded (but not fat!) Sexiness comes from within (and no i'm not a fat woman just making excuses for my protruding belly!!) Lots of the top skinny models have ugly personalities (Naiomi Campell springs to mind!!) ugly people inside are generally ugly people on the outside in the eyes of others so be happy with your body and you will just ooze sex appeal on the outside.

Go to the gym and exercise, usually ther are trainers there, they could help you out, or you could do jogging or running 3 times a week for an 1 or an 1 and half, or you could buy the sauna belt, within 50 min. you'll loose 1 to 4 inches, amazing i know!!
my mom uses that and she lost 6 inches from her waist in 10 days..and don't eat or drink anything with carbohydrates, and specially go away from all the soft drinks..

You don’t need to exercise for long periods of time. Short, sharp sets of exercise will produce better results if you work hard. Get a skipping rope, skip for two minutes, do push ups for 60 seconds or so, skip for two minutes, rest for example minute. Then change the push nearly something else like sit ups and also do the set again. Repeat it five times and it’s a fast, effective workout that will improve results than a long run or swim.

Hi Pricky
I have the same problem, and its not much fun. I have wore a dress and people have got up out of there seats to let me sit down as they think i am pregnant. Of course i take the seat as i am to embarrassed to say i a not having a baby. They only when i am gonna get rid of it is by Lypo and it cost heaps. I promise you i eat very little but i drink a lot of LUCOZADE and i mean like 15 bottles a day. I wouldn't mind what mine was like as long as it was flatter. So your not on your own girl

Music makes you eat more. According to a study by the journal Psychology as well as Marketing, soft, classical tunes encourage you to definitely take time over your mealtime, so you consume more foodstuff. So, switch off – silence will make you more aware of what you’re adding your mouth.

Set performance-based goals. Always set yourself incrementally larger goals each week to ensure you’re engaged and have something to shoot for. Each little achievement is also an incentive that you’re going in the best direction. From doing 10 more squats to mastering the latest yoga pose, whatever floats your current boat.
