Dang Photoshop, I can't figure out how to add text to a picture and how to change the text color. So for those who are adept at it, please give me some tips. All i get is a text box and no text. what to do, what to do?

sometimes depending on the size of the image your text will be incredibly small - my tip would be to make sure you set the font size to something visible. once you have typed your text in, you are able to move it as a separate layer as well as apply any transformations to it.
to get the most out of photoshop either experiment using layers, or follow one of the many online tutorials available...such as...

First off, if the image is a gif, you need to go to image-> adjustments-> Mode and change it from indexed to RGB.
On the toolbar, select the top color as the one you want the text to be.
Click on the T (next to the black arrow)
Click the area of the picture where you want to start your text, and type or paste it in.
To change the color of the test, using the T tool, select the text you want to change the color of, click the top color box and select your color.
To get out of the text tool, select any other tool.
To move the text around, select the dotted box in the top left of the toolbar, hold down the CTRL key, and drag the text to where you want it.
Doing this added a new layer to the picture, so when you're done click off that layer (in the layers window)
Or go to file-> Save for web, and save as a gif or jpeg.

you have to type text first in text box then it will be automatically placed in picture there should a color box in right of that to choose color of text and size
