Besides stating the obvious that you cannot sleep. You can also FEEL tired but cannot fall asleep. You can be up for days at a time. And there are no drugs involved causing that. (maybe that is why I do not understand people taking drugs like meth) depending on how long you have not slept you can go from being "wide awake" to fatigue after 4 or 5 days. And almost all meds that are to help you sleep DO NOT work.

Funny you should ask here. People who can not go to sleep or who can not remain asleep are insomniacs. Thats us folks. Being constantly tired is one adverse effect. Not thinking clearly during the day is another. Being really sharp at 4am is another.

You cannot sleep no matter how tired you feel, and if you do fall asleep you wake up very rapidly. Occasionally there is the urge to get up once you are "settled" in bed.

Simply the inability to get to sleep. The mind remains busy on home life, personal or business problems which seem to require your intense scrutiny, trying to come up with an answer. The unfortunate aspect is; these thoughts usually revolve around negatives.. Thus, we are talking "self induced situations". Depression is a factor, only inasmuch as you continue to keep the mind active with negatives..Anyone dwelling there fully understands the term; the mind has become the "devils workshop".

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!
1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.
2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.
The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.
After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net
Ohhh..and Good Luck!
